tour description

Southern Dalmatia boat & bike Romantica

This boat & bike tour through Southern Dalmatia will take us past unique little towns and through the beautiful island world. Experience the islands of Brač, Korčula und Šolta as well as the beautiful lavender island of Hvar. Stroll around Hvar town with its mighty fortress and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the artist’s town of Stari Grad. The UNESCO world heritage cities of Trogir and Split will add to the highlights on this tour and inspire with their incredible history. Try a variation of local specialties on your journey, especially the local wines also referred to locally as ‘gods drop’

Premium boat Romantica

At 32 x 7.6 m the Romantica was launched in 2007 and is a shapely two mast motor yacht which combines seafaring romance with the spirit of the age, style and comfort. One of the most important things for the captain is the smart appearance of his ship. Both salon and exterior have upscale facilities with a lot of fine details: the salon tables are decorated with noble intarsia, the corresponding benches are covered with precious, sun yellow leather. The large sundeck on the Romantica offers plenty of space to settle back and enjoy the sun. The 16 guest cabins are spacious and air conditioned including shower and toilet. The bathing platform at the stern enables easy admittance for a swim in the Adriatic Sea.

1. day Trogir - Split

Individual arrival by car to Trogir or by plane to Split airport, which is about 3mi./5 km away from the harbor of Trogir. After check in on the motor yacht between 2 and 2:30 pm the first cruise starts about 3 pm from Trogir to Split. The old town of Split, built into the famous palace of the Roman Caesar Diocletian, is listed as a world heritage site. Overnight stay in Split.

2. day Island Hvar ca. 20 km

In the morning cross over to the lovely natural harbour of Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. Our afternoon cycling tour on the Island of Hvar leads us through the quaint harbor towns of Jelsa and Vrboska. We start off through the vinyards on the famous ‘Stari Grad Plains’ and continue along a picturesque coastal road through the town of Vrboska, a.k.a. ‘small Venice’ to the harbor town of Jelsa. Afterwards we return to Stari Grad for our overnight stay.

3. day Islands of Hvar and Korcula ca. 22 km

Today we ride once across the length of the island. Today’s tour leads us along the almost traffic free road through quaint villages to the islands capital, Hvar, where we visit the magnificent Renaissance Square and enjoy the view from the Spanish Fortress, situated high above the city. After today’s tour, the boat takes us to the Island of Korčula. Overnight stay in Vela Luka.

4. day Island of Korcula - Makarska ca. 37 km

Today we discover the island of Korčula by bicycle. The calmness and remoteness of the vast vegetation and cypress gardens have given the shape to the probably most beautiful Dalmatian island. Our cycle tour leads us via the village of Blato, like Rome build on seven hills, and on to the harbour of Prigradica. The boat awaits our arrival at lunch and we set off for Makarska. If the weather permits we will organise a swim stop in a nice bay. The evening can be enjoyed along the famous Makarska Riviera.

5. day Makarska – Omiš ca. 44 km

A short boats crossing during breakfast to Omis. Today you have the choice between taking part on a bike tour around the Cetina Canyon or participating on a rafting excursion down the Cetina River (not included in the tour price). The bike tour takes you once around the outskirts of the canyon with great views over the river and back down towards the sea. The rafting group will be picked up from the boat by a bus and are taken up river to the starting point. From here we follow the river downstream in the rafts gaining a unique perspective of the canyon and its flora and fauna. Participants of the rafting trip are brought back to the boat in the bus after the activity. In the afternoon we have time to explore Omis or to go for a swim at the nearby beach. The night is spent in Omis.

6. day Islands Brač and Šolta ca. 32 km

Today we cruise to the island of Brač, which is famous for its radiant, precious limestone that was, among others, used for the White House in Washington or the Reichstag building in Berlin. From the picturesque harbor town of Pučišća, home to one of the most famous masonry schools in Croatia, our bike tour takes us to the neighboring town of Postira. From here, we board the boat and cruise to the island of Šolta. Here we can take part on a 4.5km hike with a visit to the local beekeeper Goran along the way. Goran has worked with bees his whole life and they are his true passion. He teaches of their importance in the world and allows all of his guests to try the delicious bee products that he makes. We spend the night in the harbor of Rogač on Šolta.

7. day Šolta Island - Trogir ca. 20 km

On Šolta we commence our last bike tour. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, locust bean and fig trees line the roads. The herbal scent of rosemary accompanies us along our tour across the island. After a round tour of the island, we return to the ship. We board and enjoy the last crossing to Trogir past the cliffs of the Čiovo peninsula. There is still plenty of time to visit the Old Town of Trogir, listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. The last evening aboard our ship is celebrated in traditional fashion. While enjoying the communal dinner in a celebrative atmosphere we will have the chance for a last get-together with our crew and tour guides.

8. day Disembarkation Trogir

After breakfast disembarkation until 9 am and individual trip home or extended stay in Dalmatia/Croatia.

In addition to the Romantica the comfort boat Kapetan Jure and premium boat San Snova are also engaged for this beautiful route.

worth knowing

Worth knowing about the Southern Dalmatia bike cruise with Romantica

Please find more information about the Southern Dalmatia bike cruise below. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us by phone: 0049 - (0)6421 - 886890.

Arrival by plane

Traveling by plane is the fastest, cheapest and most convenient way to get to Trogir. The nearest airport is Split (SPU). It is only 6 km from the port in Trogir. To get from Split airport to the port in Trogir, we recommend using a taxi. A taxi ride costs about 20 euros. You can also take bus number 37, which departs directly in front of the airport in the direction of Trogir and takes about 15 minutes (approx. 1,50 Euro, only kuna accepted).

You also can choose to fly to Zadar or Dubrovnik. We offer you from both cities a private transfer to Trogir:

Zadar - Trogir: ca. 190 € (vehicle for 1-7 persons, travel time approx. 1.5 hours)

Dubrovnik - Trogir: ca. 390 € (vehicle for 1 - 7 persons, travel time approx. 3 hours)

You can book flight offers at www.opodo.com, www.skyscanner.com or www.swoodoo.com. If you can not find a suitable flight to Split, it is possible to fly to Dubrovnik or Zadar from where we can offer you an individual transfer (on request).

Arrival by car

Munich - Salzburg (130 km), Salzburg - Villach (180 km), Villach - Ljubljana (100 km), Ljubljana - Rijeka (130 km): Motorway behind Ljubljana until you reach exit Kozina. Follow the road to Rijeka.

From Rijeka to Trogir: along the main road to Senj, then turn off towards the motorway to Split (300 km, about 5 hours).

Parking in Trogir:

In Trogir we gladly organize a secure permanent parking space on a private property at the port. The parking lot is 50 euros per week and payable on site. Please register in good time before the start of your trip. If you have booked a parking space, please ask one of the guides at the ships. He will lead you to a pilot that drives your car and guides you safely to the parking lot. After you have parked your car, the pilot will bring you back to the ship with his car. There is no insurance policy in Croatia that insures your vehicle against theft and burglary in our parking lots. Damages of this kind are only covered by the domestic liability insurance.

Arrival by train

The railway station of Rijeka is very close to the port, approx. 1 km to the ferry, which can be easily reached on foot. There are also luggage carriers in the train station, which carry your bags with handcarts to the ferry for about 3 euros per baggage. In front of the station you also find a taxi stand. Besides there is a luggage storage at the train station for those arriving earlier. From the ferry port in Split, take a bus or taxi to Trogir (about 20 km or 30 min.). The return journey by ferry and train can only start on Sunday (for the accommodation from Saturday to Sunday there are always rooms at this time of year in Trogir), as the ferry only goes to Rijeka on Sunday evening. Please inform yourself about the current train and driving times at www.bahn.de or in your travel agency. Please note that it is not possible to take your own bike from Munich to Rijeka by night train.

Requirements

The cycle tours require a basic level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 to 650 m above sea-level. The day-tours from 12 mi. to 31 mi. (20 to 60 km) will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. We traverse mostly asphalted roads, which are rarely traveled on outside the holiday seasons. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned cycle tour. This tour is primarily a guided group tour. Upon consultation with your tour guides, the possibility to cycle on your own along recommended, suitable routes, may present itself.

Helmet use is mandatory on all cycle routes. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own well-fitted helmet. Rental helmets are available on board in limited number (reservation requested).

Available rental bikes

You can choose between 21-speed gear shift trekking bikes for men and women or electric bikes.

Electric bikes on request.

Each bike is equipped with a pannier (by Ortlieb).

Catering

The cook on board prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. It starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.

Local fees

Lump sum for local fees and drinking water on board and for the bike trips:

50 euros per adult

25 Euro per child up to 16 years of age

(payable on site)

Children

We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the cycle tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.20 m (4 ft.). There is a helmet duty for all children up to age 16 in Croatia.

Subject to modification

Separate cancellation conditions apply. Due to different wind and weather conditions as well as organizational necessities, we reserve the right to change the course of the route.

Bringing your own electric bike

It is not possible to bring your own e-bike on the ship as a safety measure and to protect the health of the guides. If you want to ride an e-bike, we can offer this for booking.

7 days hotline services

Just in case the bike chain is broken, flooding makes it impossible to continue your tour or any other nasty surprise: you can reach us seven days a week and we will do anything to help you as fast as possible.

Passport and visa requirements, health regulations

For EU citizens, there are no special passport or visa requirements and no health formalities to be considered for this trip.

Travel insurance

The tour price already includes the statutory insolvency insurance. In addition, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance upon receipt of your travel confirmation in order to protect yourself against financial disadvantages in the event of travel cancellation, interruption of travel, illness or accident.
