A short break

Our short trips offer everything your cycling heart desires, even if it's just a long weekend. What do we mean by ‘just’? A few days, but lots of experiences.

Lahn

On this short trip, you will cycle along the Lahn from the student town of Marburg with its many pubs, where Velociped is also based. Feel free to stop by if you have time, because there is plenty to discover on this tour along the Lahn Valley Cycle Route: Bad Ems, Wetzlar with its imposing cathedral, the Renaissance castle in Weilburg and Limburg, also with a cathedral worth seeing, are sure to tempt you off your saddle. Arnstein Monastery and Nassau Castle are further highlights.

Main

  • The Main Cycle Route also tempts visitors with a ‘short break’: starting in Bamberg, the city of beer and cathedrals, be sure to try a pint of Rauchbier at the Schlenkerla brewery, then cross the Franconian beer and wine border and find yourself in Franconian wine country. Here, a glass of Silvaner is the order of the day. The journey to Würzburg is all about wine, where you will visit the impressive Baroque Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its wonderful gardens.
  • A second short tour along the Main takes you from Würzburg to Aschaffenburg. You start at the Residence and then cycle more or less along the banks of the Main, passing small towns with half-timbered houses such as Karlstadt, Wertheim and Lohr in the Spessart. Admire the red sandstone cliffs and, at the end of your journey, the mighty sandstone castle of Johannisburg in Aschaffenburg, which was the second residence of the archbishops of Mainz until 1803.

Moselle

We continue with short bike tours along rivers: our athletic tour along the Moselle takes us to two cities in just four days. From the Roman city of Trier with its ancient Roman buildings, you cycle to the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers in Koblenz at the Deutsches Eck. If you like, you can also cycle to the fairytale castle of Eltz.

Rhein

The short Rhine tour begins in Mainz, from where you cycle along the river through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site to Koblenz. The well-maintained, asphalted cycle path runs almost entirely along the water's edge, passing highlights such as Rheinstein, Reichenstein and Marksburg castles and, of course, the Loreley rock. You will also pass through idyllic wine villages. Perhaps you would like to try a glass of Rhine wine?

Saar

Cycle along the Saar on the short tour from French-influenced Saarbrücken to the Roman city of Trier. The motto in Saarland is ‘Hauptsach gut gegessen’ (the main thing is to eat well), so be sure to try one or two of the culinary specialities. There is also plenty to see: the Völklinger Hütte World Cultural Heritage Site, the Vauban fortifications in Saarlouis, the view from high above the winding Saar loop below, and much more. Small but mighty!

Thuringia

  • This short cycling tour from Eisenach to Weimar takes you to the highlights of Thuringia along the ‘Thuringian City Chain’ cycle path, where cities are strung together like pearls on a string. You will see four of them: Eisenach with Wartburg Castle, the royal seat of Gotha, the picturesque city of Erfurt with its cathedral and Krämerbrücke bridge, and Weimar, where almost everything revolves around classical music, Schiller and Goethe. So you can experience a lot of culture in a short space of time.
  • From Weimar, you could also go on a 4-day radial cycle tour, which saves you the hassle of packing. Cycle along the Saale and Gera rivers on good cycle paths from the classic city, where there is already enough to discover, to Erfurt with its Krämerbrücke bridge and the university city of Jena with its Jentower tower and Zeiss Planetarium.

Weser

We offer two short tours along the Weser:

  • One takes you from Hann. Münden to Minden in just five days, past Renaissance buildings, half-timbered houses and Corvey Abbey to the Pied Piper town of Hamelin, castles and palaces, and finally to Minden.
  • The other also begins in Hann. Münden with its beautiful half-timbered houses, where the Werra and Fulda rivers meet. This tour is slightly shorter, and you cycle north through the idyllic Weser valley to castles such as Corvey, Polle and Hämelschenburg, ending in Rinteln.

Europe

  • In the Netherlands, starting in Amsterdam, we highly recommend our 5-day short trip to Amsterdam's canals, tulips and windmills, even to a windmill village, to Haarlem and its medieval old town, and to Muiderslot Castle. The cycle routes are flat, making this tour suitable even for families with children.
  • Grüß Gott, Servus and Grüezi! Small but mighty is also the sporty 5-day tour on Lake Constance. Through Germany, Austria and Switzerland, you cycle along the blue water from beautiful Constance to the fresco-painted houses in Stein am Rhein, by ferry to Meersburg and through vineyard slopes. Friedrichshafen and Lindau, located on an island, are further stops before you cycle back to Constance on the Swiss side.
