For unhurried people

Come on, let's go for a leisurely ride! And why not? These tours are for connoisseurs who like to get off their bikes and linger a little longer to take a closer look at something, try something new or simply extend their break and soak up the sun. Slow biking is the motto.

A leisurely tour through northern Germany

The following leisurely tours in northern Germany are very relaxed:

  • For example, enjoy our slow tour along the Weser from Hann. Münden to Minden, where you ‘only’ cycle 26–41 kilometres a day, leaving you much more time for other things. For the picturesque half-timbered houses, the Pied Piper town of Hamelin, Corvey Castle or the Weser Renaissance castle of Bevern.
  • The pace is also leisurely on our Werra round trip from Fulda: you also start in Hann. Münden and cycle comfortably along the Fulda and Werra rivers through the Hessian countryside. You simply have more time for sights, but also for the cycle routes: the half-timbered towns of Melsungen and Rotenburg are along the way.
  • The East Frisian Fehnroute is perfect for this concept: flat and without any major inclines, you cycle on short sections from/to the port city of Emden to Groningen in the Netherlands, among other places. ‘Fehn’, or “veen” in Dutch, means ‘moor’, and you will explore some of these wonderfully wide moorland landscapes, as well as dykes, watercourses, sheep, wind and sea.
  • The land of 1,000 lakes, the Mecklenburg Lake District, is a wonderful place to stroll. On this leisurely tour, you will discover sparkling lakes, forests and historic towns and buildings on daily stages of 16-40 kilometres. This leaves enough time for the bear forest and for observing eagles, cranes and beavers.

Slow in Western Germany

  • In western Germany, you can take a leisurely three-country tour starting in Aachen: the route takes you through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany along the Rur, Inde and Meuse rivers to highlights such as the university city of Maastricht with its modern buildings, through Limburg and, of course, to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aachen Cathedral.
  • The Moselle is rich in bends and loops, but you are guaranteed not to feel dizzy on this leisurely tour. Take your time and roll relaxed from the Roman city of Trier to the Deutsches Eck and on to Koblenz. Vineyards stretch up the hillsides to the left and right of the path. You are sure to take a break or two to taste the local wines. Don't feel like cycling anymore? Hop on a Rhine boat. It doesn't get any more leisurely than this.
  • From Marburg with its Elisabeth Church to Koblenz, we send you on a leisurely ride along the Lahn Valley Cycle Route. In addition to these two interesting cities, you will explore Giessen (don't miss the Mathematikum!), quaint half-timbered houses in Wetzlar, a Renaissance castle in Weilburg, a ship tunnel and the cathedral in Bad Ems. In between, there is plenty of greenery: fields, meadows and forests.
  • Why is it so beautiful along the Rhine? It is even more beautiful when you take your time. This leisurely tour takes you from Mainz to Cologne, covering 32 to 43 kilometres per day. Any more than that would not be good, because there is so much to see: the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the numerous castles such as Marksburg and Stolzenfels, the wine-growing villages, e.g. Rüdesheim and Bacharach, and of course the Loreley. We also offer a version of the leisurely tour along the Rhine from Mainz to Bonn. This means you end your cycling tour in the former federal capital of Bonn, where you will find a wealth of museums and art exhibitions. And there is also plenty to discover along the Rhine, as described above. You could also visit the Niederwald Monument and the Drachenfels with Germany's oldest rack railway, and much more besides.

South, here we come!

We have four leisurely cycling tours for you in southern Germany:

  • Three leisurely tours take you along the Main River, and there is a good reason for that. Here you will find everything: art, culture, nature and culinary delights! Tour 1 leads from Bamberg to Würzburg along the Main River. Take your time in the pretty towns along the way, such as Haßfurt, Schweinfurt, Volkach and Kitzingen, and sample a beer or two, or a glass of wine or two after crossing the Franconian beer-wine border. The vineyards line both sides of the Main before you arrive in Würzburg, where you can visit the Baroque residence with its impressive ceiling fresco by Tiepolo and the Marienberg Fortress.
  • You can continue cycling along the Main on our leisurely tour from Würzburg to Aschaffenburg through the Spessart. The fully paved cycle path takes you towards Veitshöchheim with its remarkable Rococo garden, which features unique stone figures, and on to the three-river town of Gemünden. In addition to lots of vineyards, red sandstone and greenery, you can also admire half-timbered houses in Miltenberg and Wertheim. The third leisurely cycle tour along the Main is a combination of both: from the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg, it takes 12 days to reach Aschaffenburg.
  • The Deluxe Leisurely Tour around Lake Constance leads through Germany, Austria and Switzerland from/to Constance. Here you get the best of both worlds. You take your time and enjoy yourself in luxurious style, staying in particularly beautiful hotels. There is no shortage of towns worth seeing: Überlingen, Meersburg, Friedrichshafen, Lindau and Bregenz are along the way, as are Stein am Rhein and the Rhine Falls. You will then take the cable car up the Pfänder, as this is supposed to be a leisurely cycling tour. Enjoy the wonderful view of the three-country lake, try some whitefish (Lake Constance fish) and perhaps a glass of Fendant, a Lake Constance wine.

Strolling through Europe

  • The leisurely tour along the Danube from Passau to Vienna also takes you to Austria. The Danube Cycle Path is regularly named the best foreign cycle path, and for good reason. You cycle on well-maintained, smooth asphalt paths and roll along in a relaxed manner. Take a bend in the Schlögener Schlinge, marvel at Melk Abbey, get off your bike in the Wachau region and visit a winegrower. The grand finale is Vienna with its art treasures, pubs and coffee houses. With or without whipped cream, madam?
  • The Italian Adige Cycle Path is perfect for a leisurely tour from the Reschen Pass to Lake Garda. Mountains light by bike? Here's how: get taken up, roll down. On the left, the Romanesque church tower of Graun rises out of the clear water. The route descends through South Tyrol and Trentino, two regions that promise incomparable culinary delights. Be sure to try the Palabirnenbrot (pear bread) and ‘Turt’ (cake) at the ‘Konditorei Riedl’ in Glurns in South Tyrol's Vinschgau Valley. At Lake Garda, you will find an incredible variety of wines. There is also plenty to see. Click here to find out more.
  • In northern Portugal, we stroll from Porto and take our time to enjoy all the beautiful things along the way: Visit the port wine cellars on the Douro in Porto, cycle along the idyllic Minho River to the Spanish border and through the impressive Peneda-Gerês National Park, past vineyards – a tasting break is a must – on fantastically developed railway cycle paths, cycle paths along the Atlantic Ocean and, in some places, wooden paths on stilts.
