Tour
Look forward to visiting Germany's oldest city and arrive in Trier early to explore the Roman monuments and historic city center at your leisure and experience the city's more than 2,000 years of history.
Start the day relaxed, use the morning to explore the lively city before leaving Trier via the Moselle Cycle Route. Cycle via Mehring, where the ruins of Villa Rustica await you – an impressive remnant from Roman times. You can end the day in style at your destination, Trittenheim, with a rustic dinner or a cozy wine tasting.
After just a few kilometers, you will reach Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine village. A particular highlight here is the impressive relief of a Roman wine ship - a testament to the region's long wine history. The route continues to Bernkastel-Kues, where colorful half-timbered houses and winding alleys invite you to marvel and linger. From there, it is only a short distance to your destination: the traditional wine village of Zeltingen-Rachtig, where we recommend taking a seat in the hotel restaurant in the evening and indulging in the fresh cuisine at the Zeltinger Hof (WeinWand dinner, 4 courses, optional extra).
Surrounded by vineyards, the former Cistercian convent of Machern is idyllically located not far from Zeltingen. Start your day in a relaxed manner, visit the toy museum and the monastery brewery, and indulge in culinary delights before cycling back to Zeltingen in the early afternoon. If you prefer to spend a day away from the bike paths in the vineyards, then swap your bike saddle for the iconic VW vintage bus and enjoy a special kind of wine tour (optional extra, min. 2 persons).
Today's stage takes you first through the famous Kröver Nacktarsch wine-growing region to Traben-Trarbach. Like a natural amphitheater, the two districts are picturesquely nestled between steep vineyards and dense forests – to the left and right of the Moselle. After this rewarding break, you continue cycling along the Moselle to Enkirch, a true jewel of Moselle half-timbered architecture. Passing through the traditional wine-growing region of Zeller Schwarze Katz, you finally arrive in the lively wine village of Zell, where the Moselle flair shows its convivial side.
Today, your cycling stage takes you via Beilstein, the “Rothenburg on the Moselle,” to Treis-Karden. Beilstein enchants visitors with its winding streets and idyllic corners - it is one of the most beautiful and romantic places along the Moselle. Take the opportunity to explore the picturesque town center and visit the imposing Metternich Castle high above the village. It's really worth a detour! For the last 20 kilometers or so to your hotel in Treis-Karden, you can take it easy. The best way to round off the day is with a delicious dinner in the Schlossstube restaurant at Hotel Petry.
Today, take a trip to the medieval Eltz Castle (admission included), one of the most beautiful and best-preserved castles in Germany. Wonderfully romantically situated and nestled in unspoiled nature, it looks like a fairy-tale castle come true, inviting and majestic at the same time. Take part in an informative castle tour, discover the treasure chamber, and enjoy the magnificent view before cycling back to Treis-Karden.
After breakfast, your wonderful cycling tour ends today in Treis-Karden. For those who would like to return to Trier, we recommend our convenient return transfer service, which will take you and your luggage and private bikes from the hotel back to the starting hotel.
