The popular spa and holiday resort of Gersfeld in the middle of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve can be reached quickly by car and train. In the afternoon, stroll through the historic market square with the half-timbered houses and marvel at the baroque palace. Outside the town center, you spend the night in the family-run 4-star Hotel Gersfelder Hof, not far from the Wasserkuppe mountain plateau.
In the morning (at about 9:30 a.m.) a short transfer (10 km) takes you and your bikes up to the Wasserkuppe, at 950 m. Enjoy the great view and visit the German Gliding Museum before you go to the Fulda spring and from there follow the young Fulda downhill on the well-built cycle path. You cycle full of anticipation to the historic Hotel Vorderburg in Schlitz via Gersfeld through the wonderful landscape of the Rhön.
Today you leave the romantic castle town of Schlitz and around noon you will reach the town of Bad Hersfeld, with the largest Romanesque church ruins in Europe. Take a break in the bathing resort's freely accessible Römertherme before exploring one of the most beautiful passages of the Fulda cycle path and the half-timbered old town of Rotenburg. Now it is not far to Morschen, where the historic Hotel Kloster Haydau welcomes you impressively.
In the morning you will experience the first highlight of the day and cross the river with your own muscle power in a gondola of the cyclist cable car, which is unique in Germany. Another experience is Melsungen. With many lovingly restored half-timbered houses and the particularly beautiful half-timbered town hall, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany, this historic city on the Fulda is impressive. Take the time to explore, because your destination for the day, Guxhagen and your special Hotel Bellini can be reached quickly.
You quickly reached the Documenta city of Kassel and one of the first highlights of the day. In the middle of the Wilhelmshöhe mountain park, the Hercules statue, an imposing UNESCO cultural heritage, looks impressively down on you. You should also visit the Museum Fridericianum and the orangery in the Karlsaue State Park before you continue comfortably to Hann. Münden. Look forward to the magic of the old town, at the confluence of the Fulda and Werra rivers and an overnight stay in the Hotel Alter Packhof, with a historical ambience.
Your bike tour ends after breakfast in the heart of Hann. Münden. For all cycling enthusiasts who would also like to discover the Weser, we recommend extending their cycling holiday. For everyone else, we offer our handy return transfer service back to the starting hotel in Gersfeld (always Fridays, departure approx. 9.00 a.m., bookable from 2 persons).

Parking at the hotel
Our partner hotel in Gersfeld offers free parking for the entire duration of your bike tour. There are sufficient parking spaces available, a pre-reservation is not necessary. You will receive detailed information about the parking facilities with the travel documents two weeks before the start of your trip.
Condition of cycle paths
From the Fulda spring near the Wasserkuppe (950 m above sea level) to its mouth in the Weser, the cycle route leads through different landscapes of the north and east Hessian mountains. Most of the Fulda Cycle Route has asphalt bike paths and farm roads, and some of it goes along country roads with little traffic. Rarely do you follow gravel paths.
The route is signposted throughout with "Fuldaradweg" or "Hessischer Radfernweg R1".
From the Rhön Mountains to shortly before Fulda, the cycle path goes pleasantly downhill. After that, it continues to run flat without any notable climbs until Hann. Münden.
Available rental bikes
If you would like a Velociped rental bike for the tour, we will bring it to your starting hotel and of course pick it up again at your destination. You can choose between ladies' and men's bikes with either 7-speed hub gears and coaster brake or 27-speed derailleur gears and freewheel. All ladies' bikes have a low step-through and men's bikes are available in various frame sizes. Our women's bikes are suitable for all bike lovers from 150 cm height and the men's bikes from 165 cm. Furthermore, 8-speed unisex e-bikes are available. You simply specify your bike preference when booking.
Transfer back to the starting point
On Fridays there is the possibility to return to Gersfeld with a minibus (with bicycle transport trailer) at 9:00 am (arrival there approx. 11:30 am). The driver comes to your hotel and has room for you, your luggage and if necessary your private bike. He will drive you back to your starting hotel, ensuring a perfect return service.
