From Würzburg through the Tauber Valley, to the young Danube and on to Füssen
The Romantic Road is probably one of the oldest themed tourist routes in Germany. The special thing about this cycle tour is that you follow the Romantic Road on well-developed cycle paths. Most of the cycle route runs along small, quiet country roads, partly on asphalt or sanded cycle paths. You will also cycle along forest and field paths, but the excellent signage with the Romantic Road Cycle Route logo will always show you the right way.
Along the way, discover well-preserved medieval towns such as Wertheim, Weikersheim, the famous Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen with its unique walkable city wall. The Romantic Road cycle path takes you from Würzburg through the lovely Tauber Valley to numerous castles and palaces that are well worth seeing. You will discover idyllic landscapes as you follow in the footsteps of the Romans on a route specially designed for cyclists, from Franconia through Swabia to the very young Danube near Donauwörth. However, you will not be spared any climbs on this cycle tour, as the cycle path leads through hilly countryside between Würzburg and the Tauber Valley. In the Tauber Valley, you will follow the Tauber Valley Cycle Route, which is easy going, up and down to Rothenburg o.d.Tauber. The cycle route then leads over the Frankenhöhe, and climbs are unavoidable on this day until you finally reach the Wörnitz Valley, which takes you to the young Danube, the destination of your cycle tour.
