Cycling in Hesse

Hesse has far more to offer than just beautiful cycle paths for holidays. Everyday life shows  how diverse and lively cycling is in our region. Whether on the way to work, on short trips into the Marburg countryside, or at major events – people are pedalling with enthusiasm everywhere.

Cycling passion in Hesse

Stadtradeln 2026

Of course, Velociped will once again be taking part in Stadtradeln 2026! This nationwide campaign pursues an important goal: encouraging people to complete as many everyday journeys as possible by bike instead of by car, actively contributing to climate protection. Whether commuting to work, going shopping or heading out on a weekend trip – every kilometre counts. In addition to reducing CO₂ emissions, Stadtradeln aims above all to show just how easy and enjoyable sustainable everyday mobility can be.

Our motivated five-person Velociped team will be collecting plenty of kilometres during the campaign weeks. And it is not just about the usual everyday journeys. In our free time, too, we take every opportunity to get on our bikes and explore the region. Katrin, Daniela and Elke cycle to the office whenever possible and enjoy starting the day with a ride through Marburg or along the well-developed Lahn Cycle Route. Carolin and Christine like to combine cycling with trips to childcare, visits to family and friends, or journeys to sports activities and the swimming pool.

Small breaks on two wheels

But cycling is not just part of everyday life – we also enjoy getting out on our bikes in our free time. Daniela, for example, sets off from home towards Marburg. The bikes are quickly parked in the city centre, and from there it is on foot through the narrow lanes of the historic Upper Town up to the famous Marburg Castle. Christine enjoys exploring the Marburg countryside with her family – playground stop included. And of course, good food is part of the experience too: lunch with a view of gliders taking off or a delicious ice cream in glorious sunshine make these little outings just perfect.

Cycling together for a good cause

A very special event will take place on 6 June to mark Organ Donation Day. The Verein zur Förderung der Organspende Hessen e.V. is organising a major cycling tour from Gießen to Bad Nauheim with around 300 participants, 25 guides and a total route of 94 kilometres. The aim of the tour is to raise awareness of the important topic of organ donation and encourage people to consciously engage with the subject.

The event is already taking place for the fifth time and is usually fully booked within just a few days. Velociped is also supporting the event: we are contributing with a donation and providing all participants with a buff.

Our conclusion

Whether during Stadtradeln, on the daily commute or at special events – Hesse shows just how diverse and vibrant cycling can be. Between beautiful nature, historic towns and dedicated campaigns, there is far more to discover than just classic cycling holidays.
