Tour
Discover the historic centre of the former Free Imperial City on the island and the famous harbour entrance with its lighthouse and Bavarian lion.
First, you cycle along the shore of Lake Constance for a while, but soon the Lake Constance-Königssee Cycle Route takes you up into the Allgäu region. Passing lush green meadows with grazing cows, you are greeted by a picture-perfect landscape, just as you would imagine the Allgäu to be. Your destination for the day is Oberstaufen, a traditional Schroth spa resort idyllically nestled in the Allgäu Alps. On the way, it is worth stopping at a show dairy, where you can gain fascinating insights into the production of the famous Allgäu cheese and taste it too. In the evening, enjoy regional specialities such as hearty Kässpatzen (cheese noodles) or a traditional pork knuckle in one of Oberstaufen's cosy restaurants – the perfect end to an eventful day of cycling.
Your route takes you through the idyllic valley of the Konstanzer Ach to the Großer Alpsee, which is picturesquely nestled between rolling hills and the imposing Nagelfluh chain. The clear water invites you to take a refreshing break before pedalling hard again. Along the Grünten, the striking ‘guardian of the Allgäu’, the route climbs to Oy-Mittelberg at an altitude of 1,000 metres - the highest point of your entire cycling tour. You follow the shore of Lake Rottach for a while before reaching the highest point of your journey in Oy-Mittelberg. From there, it is only a short ride to Nesselwang, your destination for today.
Today's stage to Füssen is deliberately shorter, because a fairytale highlight awaits you on the shores of Lake Forggensee. High above the valley rises the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle - a symbol of romantic architecture - together with its sister, the idyllically situated Hohenschwangau Castle. The sight of these castles against the backdrop of the Allgäu Alps is an unforgettable experience. Our tip: it is best to reserve your tickets in advance!
If you feel like a longer bike ride, we recommend a tour around Lake Forggensee - a panoramic route full of wide open spaces, water and views of the Alps.
First, your stage takes you along Lake Forggensee, Germany's largest reservoir, and over the picturesque steam train route to Marktoberdorf. Then you pass through the Kempten Forest, where a few climbs await you before you reach Kempten. The city, once founded by the Romans as Cambodunum, is one of the oldest in Germany. A visit to the magnificent Residenz is highly recommended - here, sacred and secular elements combine to form an impressive work of art.
Today, you can enjoy a leisurely cycle ride along a former railway line into the Württemberg part of the Allgäu region. Your route takes you up to the European watershed, where the rivers divide into two major streams - one flowing into the Danube, the other into the Rhine. It is a fascinating place with symbolic significance. Be sure to take a break in Isny. This historic town lies on the Upper Swabian Baroque Route and surprises visitors with impressive buildings, charming squares and a lively history - a place that is always worth a visit. Then follow the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Route and roll through idyllic landscapes to Wangen. The lively old town with its colourful facades, narrow streets and cosy places to stop for refreshments provides an atmospheric end to your stage.
The final stage takes you along the Danube-Lake Constance Cycle Route through the Tettnang hop-growing region, Germany's southernmost hop-growing area. Between hop gardens and orchards, you cycle through an idyllic cultural landscape that shows the Allgäu at its most delightful. In Kressbronn, you finally reach Lake Constance again. Now the lakeside path of the Lake Constance Cycle Route accompanies you on the last few kilometres back to Lindau. The vast expanse of water, the glistening waves and the panorama of the Alps on the horizon provide a fitting end to your round trip - a moment that once again brings home the beauty of this journey in a special way.
Your bike tour through the Allgäu region ends after breakfast. We would be happy to extend your stay in Lindau.

Current schedule and price information you will find at Train schedule information

Some of the arrival hotels have paid parking facilities. Alternatively, there are two central paid long-term car parks available (Karl-Bever-Platz P3 with 311 parking spaces and Seeparkplatz P5 with 660 parking spaces). Costs around €10.00 per day/car. A reservation is not possible. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents.
