From Meiningen via Eisenach to Hann. Münden

Look forward to an unusual cycle route, as the Werra, which joins the Fulda to form the Weser in Hann.Münden, was for many years the border river between East and West Germany. Most of the route runs along well-maintained or asphalted cycle paths, farm tracks and quiet side roads. All cyclists will certainly appreciate the excellent signage along the entire length of the Werra Cycle Route. Start your cycling tour in the theatre town of Meiningen, which proudly presents its theatre, castle and interesting museums.
From here, the Werra Cycle Route winds its way along the Werra river through the hilly Rhön region to the land of the White Mountains around the present-day spa town of Bad Salzungen. Marvel at the large salt deposits, the graduation tower and the Monte Kali. A short detour from the Werra Cycle Route takes you to Eisenach, home of Wartburg Castle. You will be rewarded with famous historical figures such as Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach, Walter von der Vogelweide and Saint Elisabeth. Your cycle tour now continues northwards. Medieval half-timbered towns such as Creuzburg, Treffurt, Eschwege, Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Witzenhausen in the land of cherries await you. The cycle path takes you along many limestone reefs through what is probably the most beautiful part of the Werra Valley. The crowning glory of your cycle tour is the pretty three-river and half-timbered town of Hann. Münden, idyllically situated on the Fulda, Werra and Weser rivers.
