Report from the sustainability team

We have been a member of Travelife since December 2024 because the climate is important to us, whether it concerns the way our customers travel, our office, food, hotels, restaurants, or our carbon footprint in general. At Velociped, we are committed to climate-conscious actions and want to integrate sustainability into our everyday lives. In our regular posts, you can find out how conscious behavior affects the way we work, which processes we are working on, which projects we support, and how you, as a guest, can support us on our journey toward greater sustainability.

Sustainability through cooperation: Working together for a green future

News about our sustainability team

A small, diverse team of six employees from different areas of the company, with a wide range of perspectives and expertise, is currently at the heart of the ongoing processes. The broad-based sustainability team has set itself the goal of driving the processes forward with commitment and consistency and working together to make a positive contribution.

Regular meetings are held to present current topics and the progress made in the respective areas, and a creative exchange takes place within the team, stimulating discussion and generating new ideas. The ongoing discussions also ensure that we remain flexible as a company and continuously work to improve our sustainable practices.

The team is an important driving force that ensures sustainability is taken into account in all areas of our company—from product development and travel processing to communication with our customers.

News about our current projects

We use the internationally recognized CO² calculator “Carmacal” to record the CO² emissions caused by our original trips and thus offer a transparent and comprehensible balance sheet. Although active holidays by bike are an environmentally friendly way to travel, CO² emissions are of course still generated during the trip. Accommodation, luggage transport, meals, and individual activities are included in the total CO² emissions balance, which we aim to offset completely in the long term through climate protection projects.

We currently pursue a sustainable approach and minimize our ecological footprint and that of our cycling friends by supporting regional projects.

Tons of trash at the bottom of our rivers not only endanger animals, but also the environment and us humans. Since 2020, the Lahntaucher have been working to raise awareness, recovering large quantities of scrap metal and other waste from local waters, campaigning for the protection of endangered species and promoting environmental protection through educational projects. We support the voluntary work of the many volunteers and their energetic efforts with a financial donation and are grateful for their contribution.

News about you, our cycling enthusiasts

Booking a cycling trip is a conscious decision in favor of sustainable tourism. Star tours and longer hotel stays are becoming increasingly important in our portfolio, partly due to the booking decisions of our guests. We are thus specifically addressing the needs of hoteliers and sending a clear signal for greater sustainability by expanding this travel offering. By foregoing printed documents and opting for our digital route book, you are making a further contribution to climate protection. Our tour app offers many advantages over the tried-and-tested documents and navigates you along your route with GPS, shows you sights and restaurants, and alerts you to road closures and diversions.
As a thank you for foregoing printed travel documents, we are continuing to offer you the sustainability bonus of € 20.00 per room on many of our trips.

News about steps towards certification

Travelife is a leading global three-stage training and certification program for sustainability management in the travel industry. As a committed member of Travelife, we are working step by step to meet international sustainability standards and aim to achieve the first level of certification, “Travelife Partner.” The focus areas include energy-saving measures, waste and emissions management, and environmentally friendly practices in travel planning and during the trip. In the long term, we are contributing to greater sustainability and a stronger awareness of environmental protection in various areas.
