Tour
Arrive in Strasbourg early today and use the time to discover the city's many sights. Thanks to your hotel's central location, all the highlights can be easily explored on foot – a real experience. A special highlight is the climb up 332 steps to the south tower of Strasbourg Cathedral, which rewards you with an impressive panoramic view of the city.
An idyllic cycle path takes you through Strasbourg to the banks of the Rhine. At a leisurely pace, you cycle through the wide Rhine valley and enjoy the varied river landscape. In Drusenheim, a ferry takes you to the opposite bank before you continue your tour through the charming floodplain landscapes to Rastatt. There, the baroque old town with its special charm awaits you.
After your first day in the saddle, Rastatt invites you to linger: relax in a beer garden or one of the small breweries, try a freshly brewed beer and watch the work on the brewing kettles. An ideal opportunity to get to know German beer specialities and soak up the convivial atmosphere of the town.
If you haven't visited it the day before, we recommend a detour to Rastatt Palace – the oldest Baroque residence on the Upper Rhine – and its impressive gardens. On the way to Karlsruhe, it's worth stopping off in Malsch: at the Alter Bahnhof brewery, housed in the historic station building, you can learn about a genuine local brewing tradition.
Then continue cycling through charming villages to Karlsruhe. Take your time to stroll through the elegant streets of the city before finally reaching your hotel, which is only a few kilometers outside the city.
Today you have the opportunity to explore the charming medieval town of Ettlingen and the picturesque district of Durlach before heading back towards France. The day's stage is mostly flat and runs largely along the German-French cycle path. This runs through idyllic woodland and open fields along the Lauter Valley and makes for relaxed cycling.
Once you arrive in Wissembourg, be sure to visit the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, an impressive Gothic building that bears witness to the city's great religious significance in the Middle Ages. The Westercamp Museum, housed in a former chapel, is also worth seeing: with its diverse collections ranging from religious art to archaeological finds, it provides fascinating insights into the history of the region.
Today's stage takes you through a varied landscape of rolling hills, villages, vineyards, meadows, and orchards. In Cleebourg, you cycle through the northernmost vineyards of Alsace before taking time to admire the half-timbered houses of Hunspach, lovingly decorated with flowers. The village was named “village préféré des français” in 2020 and is considered one of the most beautiful in Alsace.
On the way, take a detour to Fort Schœnenbourg, an impressive structure on the Maginot Line. Here you can visit the complex or enjoy the sweeping view from the domes of the fortress. Then immerse yourself in the Haguenau Forest: designated a “Forêt d'Exception” (exceptional forest), it offers a protected and particularly unspoiled natural landscape.
At the end of the day, you will reach Haguenau. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the town was one of the ten free towns of the Alsatian Decapolis and still has a lively historic center today. Particularly worth seeing is the Hop Hall, a striking building that was once used for drying and storing hops.
Today, a visit to the Uberach craft brewery is on the agenda. Take the opportunity to join a guided tour, learn more about the brewing process, and taste selected beers. The route then takes you through gently rolling, peaceful countryside with plenty of rural charm.
In Neuwiller-lès-Saverne, it's worth stopping to admire the Romanesque abbey church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul. Your destination for the day is Saverne, once the residence of the bishops of Strasbourg. The town is best known for the imposing Rohan Castle, which is not without reason considered the “little Versailles of Alsace.” The idyllic Marne-Rhine Canal runs through the town and underlines its special atmosphere.
Saverne combines historical splendor with scenic beauty and is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Vosges mountains—an atmospheric end to this stage.
You leave Saverne and follow EuroVelo 5 along the Marne-Rhine Canal. This stage is pleasantly easy and mostly flat. As you cycle leisurely along the water, the typical Alsatian landscape with its villages and fields passes you by.
On the way, you will reach Hochfelden, a stronghold of the art of brewing. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about the production process of France's oldest active brewery and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of this traditional family brewery. Open the doors of Villa METEOR and enjoy an extraordinary guided tour with tasting – a real highlight of this trip.
Today, your beer tour through Alsace ends after breakfast at the hotel. We would be happy to book additional nights in Strasbourg for you.
