Kvarner bay: bike & boat with MS Linda
tour description
Cycling cruise Kvarner Bay
Countless islands in crystal clear water, deeply fissured cliffs, picturesque beaches and numerous small bays. That’s the Kvarn Bay in the northern Adriatic. Every island is different. Each has its own history. We will spend a week discovering the landscape and people of this unique island world by bike, independently and with the aid of knowledgeable tour guides. On a romantic motor yacht, our floating accommodation, we discover the charm of the Adriatic in our own special way. We cycle off after a hearty breakfast. At midday we meet the ship at a harbor for lunch. In the evening the ship will be waiting in the next harbor, so that we can enjoy fantastic cuisine as the sun sets, followed by a stroll through a historic harbor town. Finally, we settle down in our cabins to sleep or stay on deck under a thousand stars...
Ship MS Linda
Captain Damir's Linda was built in 1955 and renovated in 2004/05 to meet the requirements of Island hopping. The ship is a spacious wooden motor yacht and being 31 metres long and 6 metres wide the MY Linda is among the largerer ships in our Croatian fleet. The large saloon can accommodate 32 guests and the middle sundeck is constructed in a way that meals can also be served outside. The ship has 14 cabins with private bath: 10 cabins are on deck, 4 are below deck. Captain Damir and his crew look forward making your vacation an unforgettable one.
1. day Omisalj - Island Cres
Individual arrival in Omisalj, a nice little harbor village on the island of Krk. If you’re planning to arrive by car, we will organise a safe parking space for you. The cabins on the motor yacht will be ready for you from 2 pm. At ca. 3 pm the ship will sail and take us to the island of Cres in about four hours. In the evening you can join a short walking tour through the old town of Cres with your guide.
2. day Islands Cres and Losinj, approx. 28 km
After breakfast we start our tour from the city of Cres to Martinšćica. The boat awaits your arrival and lunch is served during the cruise to the island of Lošinj. If the weather is good, the captain will arrange a swim stop along the way before tying off in the harbor wellness town of Mali Lošinj. The port with its colourful facades and numerous cafes offers its visitors a welcoming atmosphere for a relaxed evening.
3. day Islands Losinj and Molat, approx. 20 + 10 km
Along the seaside walk we cycle to the south of Losinj and visit the picturesque small harbour of Veli Losinj before we meet the ship for lunch. In the afternoon we cross over to the island of Molat, where we’ll do one more short bike tour. Overnight stay in the quiet harbour of Molat.
4. day Islands of Dugi Otok and Olib, approx. 32 km
During breakfast the ship leaves Molat and takes us past many small islands to the "spice island" of Dugi Otok. Our bike tour starts in the bay of Božava which is surrounded by pine woods, agaves and tamarisk trees, and we ride on a road almost free of traffic. Our tour leads us at first to the northern most point of the island where the light house of Veli Rat stands proudly since 1849 fulfilling its duty in guiding sailors safely on their way. A ride along the islands “Road in the Sky” brings us to the peaceful harbor of Savar or Bribinj. There will be ample time for a swim break in the afternoon before continuing to the small island of Olib for the night.
5. day Island Pag and Rab, approx. 34 km
Today you will reach the island of Pag. In the harsh but delightful landscape of the island we’ll come across many fig and olive trees. Over the centuries the inhabitants have built numerous stone walls for protection against the wind. We will bike on the narrow peninsula until we reach the sea where the ship will be waiting to take us to Rab. The island of Rab is one of the sunniest places in Europe and known for its wonderful landscape. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the middle ages on a wedge shaped headland, and marks one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are the symbol of the adorned beauty of the town. After dinner we can explore the narrow alleys with numerous cosy cafes.
6. day Island Rab, approx. 25 km
We will bike along the coast to the east side of the island, an area with virtually no vegetation, whose rough and cliffy rocks remind us of a lunar landscape. The road will lead us to a bay with a sandy beach, which is rather atypical for the Kvarner islands. At lunchtime the ship will be waiting for us in the harbor directly in front of the old town of Rab. After a swim break the ship will take us to the neighboring island of Krk, where we’ll spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.
7. day Island Krk, approx. 45 km
We will cycle over the ridge of the island, which is covered by fragrant macchia to a valley of vineyards and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50-meter-high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is the home of the famous white wine, Zlahtina. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the second narrowest alley in the world. The way will lead us across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omisalj, from where Rijeka will be within sight. On the way, we will have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. We’ll spend the last night in Omisalj.
8. day Omisalj (disembarkation)
The guests are asked to check out after breakfast, i.e. by 9 am.

When booking your flight, please note that the ship from Omisalj usually departs at 3:00 p.m. and check-in is between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. If you want to book a flight that lands after 2 p.m., please contact us.
If you don't get any flight connections to Rijeka, you can also fly to Zagreb Airport. A shared transfer to Omisalj and back to the airport is offered here on the day of embarkation and disembarkation. A reservation stating the exact flight details is possible and required up to a maximum of 14 days before the start of the trip. Departure times to Omišalj (on the day of embarkation): from the airport
Arrival by car
From Frankfurt via Munich - Salzburg - Villach - Ljubljana - Koper to Pula and on to Rijeka, the distance is about 1000 km. To enter Croatia you need your driver's license, the vehicle registration document and the green insurance card for the vehicle. In Omisalj, we will be happy to organize a secure long-term parking space for you on a private property directly at the port, subject to prior reservation.
Parking costs 50 euros per week and is payable locally upon arrival. If you have arrived at the port by car, please ask one of the tour guides at the ships. There is no insurance in Croatia that insures your vehicle against theft and burglary in the parking spaces provided by us. Damage of this kind is only covered by the local comprehensive insurance. However, since the beginning of our travels (1998) we have not received any reports of damage.
Arrival by train
If you want to travel by train, please note that there is no direct train connection to Omisalj. However, there is a good connection with the night train from Munich to Rijeka. On the day of embarkation, a shared transfer from Rijeka train station to Omisalj can be booked. This only applies to the night train, which arrives in Rijeka around 9:30 a.m. A transfer bus will then be waiting at the train station (if reserved in advance) for the onward journey to Omisalj (approx. 45 minutes). A shared transfer from Omisalj to Rijeka can also be booked early in the morning on the day of disembarkation. The transfer price is on request.
Available rental bikes
24-speed trekking bikes for women and men and 11-speed electric bikes are available. The bikes are each equipped with an Ortlieb pannier.
It is not possible to take your own e-bike with you due to safety regulations on the ships and to protect the health of the tour guide. If you would like to ride an e-bike, we are happy to offer it to you for booking.
Requirements
The cycling stages require a certain level of fitness from the participants, which regular cyclists should have acquired. The routes go up between 400 and 700 meters. The daily stages of 30 - 50 km lead through hilly and mountainous terrain and are cycled without time pressure. Steeper or longer gradients can also be mastered, but pushing is definitely allowed. The tour guides will inform you in good time.
The roads are mostly paved and rarely used outside of the holiday season. Decide for yourself every day whether you want to cycle individually using maps or join one of the two travel companions.
Instead of a bike tour, you can also spend half or a whole day bathing on the ship. Helmets are compulsory on bike tours. Please bring your own well fitting helmet. A limited number of rental helmets are available (reservation required).
On this trekking bike tour, the guided group pace is based on the trekking cyclists. If you rent an e-bike on a trekking tour, you are asked to be considerate of those who ride without electronic support. Trekking riders need more time and breaks when riding uphill.
Catering
The accompanying cook is a member of the crew and prepares an extensive breakfast and one to two warm meals every day. Meals include 2 x full board and 5 x half board. Depending on the course of the tour, one or the other lunch meal can also consist of a packed lunch. The first meal begins with dinner on the day of embarkation and ends with breakfast on the day of disembarkation.
Discounts
If the cabins are occupied by three people, we grant a 50% discount on the basic travel price for the third person (only possible below deck). These cabins are equipped with a queen bed below and a single bunk above.
Children up to and including the age of 16 receive a discount of 25% on the basic travel price (cannot be combined with other discounts)

tour highlights
Island of Losinj
On the island you find subtropical vegetation with palm trees, pine trees, agaves, oleanders, citrus trees, sage and lavender. Losinj is one of the sunniest places in Europe, with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine a year.
Island of Dugi Otok
Dugi Otok, the "long island", is the largest island of Northern Dalmatia. With its secluded bays and the magnificent underwater world, the approximately 44 kilometers long and up to five kilometers wide mountainous island is a paradise for divers and those who want to spend their holidays in a quiet and relaxing environment. Nature lovers are drawn by the main attraction of Dugi Otok, the Telascica Natural Park, which covers the entire southern litt of the island. The breathtaking rugged limestone cliffs on the steep coast of the park are reminiscent of the legendary siren song, but the beautiful bays attract sailors, divers and bathers at equally. The Mir salt lake surrounded by pine trees, with its unspoilt nature and the many rare animals and plants is also a worthwhile excursion destination during a discovery tour along Telascica Bay and its hinterland.
Island of Pag
The island of Pag is probably the most contrasting island in Croatia. A place that polarizes people. It can be seen as a Croatian response to Lanzarote. As you approach the island from the mainland, you are inevitably reminded of a lunar landscape. Nothing but naked sand-colored rocks. However, if you have entered the island and crossed the first mountain, you can see many smaller and larger places, meadows, reeds, fields and olive groves. The city of Pag is especially known for its sheep cheese.
Island of Rab
The island of Rab is one of the most famous and popular tourist destinations of the German and Austrians. It offers an astonishing variety of landscapes, beautiful estates, cultural monuments from pre-Roman times and much more.
Island of Krk
Krk is the largest island in the Adriatic Sea. It is also called Insula Aurea, meaning the Golden Island. Krk is known for its beautiful beaches and clear water, but also for its karst landscapes and lush forests. The wine region of Krk is famous for the white wine Zlahtina which is traditionally cultivated in the municipality of Vrbnik.
