South Tyrol - you immediately think of excellent wine, traditional Törggelen, the imposing Dolomites and breathtaking scenery. A cycle tour through this region can truly become a ‘star tour’. This journey takes you through picturesque towns such as Bolzano, Merano and Trento, to Lake Kaltern and past magnificent apple orchards and vineyards. A cycle tour through South Tyrol is always a culinary journey of discovery. Our rally tour offers you the most comfortable way to experience South Tyrol on two wheels.

Highlights:

Bolzano
South Tyrol's capital Bozen with over 100,000 inhabitants, is located roughly in the centre of the region, at an altitude of between 232 and 1,616 metres above sea level. The Bolzano basin was already inhabited thousands of years ago.

Merano, Tappeiner Weg
Probably the city's most famous footpath runs along the east-west axis of the town on the Zenoberg at an average altitude of 380 metres above sea level. The Tappeinerweg starts in the Laurinstraße in Gratsch and ends four kilometres further on in the Zenobergstraße.

Lake Kaltern
The Kalterer See is the largest natural bathing lake in South Tyrol, which is, however, poor in lakes, and the warmest Alpine lake of all (bathing season from the beginning of May to September). It is approx. 1.8 kilometres long and 0.9 kilometres wide, which corresponds to approx. 155 hectares. It is 4 metres deep and lies 216 metres above sea level.

Bressanone
The municipality Brixen lies in the heart of South Tyrol in the truest sense of the word and is nestled in a wide valley basin. The municipality is surrounded by vineyards and orchards, which thrive thanks to the mild climate of the central Eisack Valley.

Your hotel:
4-star Parkhotel Laurin

The hotel, affectionately called ‘Laurin’ by the people of Bolzano, was built in 1910 and is undoubtedly the first hotel on the square. It delights its guests with a perfect balance between tradition and modernity. The comfortable and elegant Comfort rooms, which are booked on this star bike tour, offer the highest level of living comfort, while the public areas have a sophisticated design.

The historic hotel bar serves as a meeting point for locals and guests strolling through the extensive park. However, the stylishly designed pool is exclusively available to hotel guests.

Trip

Look forward to the capital of South Tyrol with its charming leafy streets, the lively fruit market and Waltherplatz, which delights with its Italian flair. Alternatively, you can plan a visit to ‘Ötzi’ in the archaeological museum.

From Bolzano, you first cycle along the River Isarco and then follow the picturesque cycle path to Merano. The spa town, which lies at the confluence of the Passer and Adige rivers, impresses with its numerous sights such as the Prince's Castle, the Tappeinerweg, the spa promenade and the Post Bridge. On the way back, the route takes you via Lana, where you can admire the famous Schnatterpeck altar, on through orchards and vineyards to Eppan and finally back to your accommodation.

Along the cycle path, the route leads past Sigmundskron Castle, which houses the Messner Mountain Museum, on to Eppan. From there, you can enjoy fantastic views over the valley as you cycle to Lake Kaltern. The route is lined with vineyards and apple orchards, which grow in abundance. On the way back, the route takes you through the Montiggl Lakes nature reserve, where you will overcome some minor climbs before reaching Bolzano again.

Cycle southwards along the Adige cycle path, past Salurn from South Tyrol into Trentino. After crossing the language border into Italy, you can enjoy a delicious pasta lunch. The picturesque old town of Trento, with its imposing cathedral, numerous palazzi, the Castello del Buonconsiglio as well as cosy cafés and varied shops, is an extremely worthwhile stage destination. The return journey to Bolzano is easy by train.

Take the train to Brixen, the picturesque old bishop's town surrounded by vineyards. The picturesque old town centre with its arcades and impressive cathedral is well worth a visit. On the way back to Bolzano, you will pass the medieval town of Chiusa, overlooked by the Säben monastery. The cycle tour leads steadily downhill along the former railway line, which has been converted into a beautifully landscaped cycle path.

The panoramic cable car takes you up to 1221 metres to Oberbozen. From there, you can cycle - or alternatively take the narrow-gauge railway - to the idyllic Wolfsgruben lake and on to Klobenstein. A short detour takes you to the impressive earth pyramids, a fascinating natural spectacle. The return journey takes you back to Oberbozen, where you can take the cable car down into the valley. Alternatively, you can also choose a descent from Klobenstein into the Eisack Valley.

The journey ends today after breakfast at the hotel. If you wish, you can extend the trip to Venice.
