tour highlights
Bozen, Archeology museum
The Archeology Museum is the new location of "Ötzi", the approximately 5300 year old man from the ice, the mummy of the Similaungletscher. The exhibition space is approximately 1,200 m² and comprises four floors. In the museum the history of South Tyrol from the first beginnings to the early Middle Ages is illustrated by archaeological finds, models, holograms, videos and acoustic impressions. The mummy is located along with the discovery history and the natural sciences in the area devoted to the Bronze Age, on the first floor.
In the air-conditioned showcases also the devices, which together with the man from the ice were found, are exhibited.
Trient, Castello del Buonconsiglio
The fortress consists of the "Castelvecchio" built in the 13th century and the "Magno Palazzo" built in the 16th century. The former two parts were combined into one unit in the 17th century on behalf of Bishop Francesco Alberti-Poja. Through the entrance gate "Porta dei Diamanti" one reaches the castle garden and from there into the Magno Palazzo, in which the two halls "Camera delle Udienze" and "Camera del Camin Nero" are quite worth seeing. A bridge leads to Castelvecchio, a medieval castle, which has a medieval appearance.
In the tower is the main attraction of the Castellos, which can only be admired with a guided tour. In the 14th - 15th century, The "fresco cycle of the month pictures", which was created in the sixteenth century, extends over the entire room and captivates the diversity of the motifs and creativity of the (unknown) artists.
Rovereto
Just a few kilometers from Lake Garda, Rovereto is a beautiful city in the Vallagarina, around the imposing Castel Veneto (the seat of the Historical War Museum). Rovereto is known all over the world for the PEACE BALL that rings on the hill of Miravalle every evening one hundred times to remind of all the fallen of all wars.
Lake Garda
The Lake Garda Region is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and impressive natural regions in Europe. The sight of the lake alone was worth a detour. The mild climate, the lush Mediterranean vegetation and picturesque villages in front of an impressive mountain landscape, which then transitions into a gentle hill covered with wine and olive trees - all this is simply the epitome of romantic Italy, the "country in Italy Where the lemons bloom ".
Due to the continually moving glaciers about 10,000 years ago the largest Italian inland water was created. The lake covers an area of 370 km² and is 52 km long and has a width of 4 km in the north, while the south is about 17 km.
Verona, Arena
The Arena of Verona is a well-preserved Roman amphitheater. Originally it had a size of 152 x 123 m, now only 138 x 109 m at a height of exactly 24.1 m, but it is still the third-largest of the ancient ones after the Coliseum in Rome and the Arena of Capua Amphitheater. The arena was built in the 1st century from white and red limestone, which was partially taken for construction in the Middle Ages. Today, the arena is used for the world famous opera performances and now seats 22,000 spectators on 45 stairs on two inner rings.
Verona, Piazza delle Erbe
Here was the center of ancient Verona with the forum where the urban life took place. This function has preserved the Piazza delle Erbe until today. In this square, which is one of the most beautiful in Italy, the administrative headquarters of the commune, the magnificent Fountain of the Scaligeri period, with the Roman statue "Madonna Verona", is a common meeting point and there is a joyous market in Piazza delle Erbe.
Padua, Basilica of Saint Anthony
The Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua is one of the most famous and most visited sanctuaries in Italy and Basilica minor. It was built between 1232 and the middle of the 14th century in Romanesque-Gothic style to accommodate the tomb of Saint Anthony of Padua (1231 in Arcella, now part of Padua).
Vicenza, Basilica Palladiana
Palladio received the order for this artwork, built between 1549 and 1614, only after he had prevailed against other competitors. The Basilica Palladiana (also Palazzo della Ragione) was his first order.
Basilica of San Marco, Campanile and Doge´s Palace
The basilica of San Marco was built as a cross-dome church in the 11th century, following the example of the Apostle Church in Constantinople. With its mix of Byzantine, Late Gothic and Renaissance architecture and the Venetian decorations, the Basilica looks like an enchanted fairytale castle.
From the Campanile, Venice's highest bell tower, you have a fantastic view over the lagoon.
The Doge's Palace, right next to St. Mark's Basilica, was the administrative center of the Venetian Republic, and at the same time an impressive symbol of its size and power. All important governmental bodies and courts had their seat here.
Murano
This island in the lagoon of Venice is famous worldwide for its glassware. You should not forget to visit Murano during a Venice holiday. Here you can see glassblowers at work, which conjure up the best things from a lump of glass.
