Tour
Arrive in Linz as early as possible, because there is so much to see and experience: a visit to the Lentos Art Museum, Linz Castle, a stroll through the historic old town, or simply enjoy a slice of Linzer Torte in a coffee house. There's something for everyone here.
The day starts with the bike handover, then you get on your bikes: you cycle along the Danube on well-maintained cycle paths. Enjoy the geographical diversity of the Mühlviertel, valleys, rivers and hills as well as town and country alternate on today's stage. Take a break en route at the Donautaler Mostkellerei in Obermühl and taste the award-winning cider products or enjoy game from the local hunt or fish from the hotel's own fishing waters at the associated inn. In the evening, a 4-course Danube culinary menu awaits you at your hotel in Neustift.
Today you are out and about in the impressive landscape between the Danube and the Bohemian Forest, discovering the three-country region by bike: untouched nature, idyllic places and viewpoints. A highlight of today's cycle tour is Austria's largest organic medicinal herb garden in Klaffer with a fascinating variety of medicinal herbs and plants that smell wonderful. For beer lovers, Schlägl Abbey is a must: beer has been brewed there for over 400 years. The versatile beer specialties have won numerous international awards.
Gentle hills, green meadows, tranquil forests and plenty of views in one direction to South Bohemia and in the other direction to the Dachstein. Feel the peace and serenity along the green border, along the Bohemian Forest in the Mühlviertel highlands. Experience typical things from this region: linen, bacon and lots of philosophy of life. On the way, you will pass the Kitzmüller weaving mill in Guglwald, which produces textiles from pure natural fibers, and the Mühlholz farm, a farm with chickens, a workshop and a composting facility. Bacon lovers will get their money's worth at the Mühlviertler Speckstibe in Piberschlag. In the evening, the hotel chef will spoil you with a 4-course Mühlviertel delicacy menu.
After a hearty breakfast, you get on your bikes and set off in the direction of Freistadt. Past the Sternstein, the Stoabloss houses and through herb fields to the brewing town of Freiberg. Today's program includes the Langzwettl cheese dairy, the Austrian mountain herb cooperative in Hirschbach and the brewing commune in Freistadt. At the Braucommune, both the beer and the brewery have been awarded the Slow Brewing seal of approval.
Today you will travel through the Mühlviertel hills, discover the Mühlviertel Nature Park and the Mühlviertel's coziness. Take in the landscape and the people. The Krammer store in Lasberg is an organic and environmentally conscious place to shop. Organic products from the farm's own production and from partners, ecological household items and wonderfully fine organic natural cosmetics are available to buy. The Dambachler distillery in Gutau also focuses on regional products. In addition to award-winning brandies and liqueurs, the range also includes high-quality organic vinegars. In the evening, enjoy a 5-course menu of your choice with healthy delicacies from the Mühlviertel.
Hop on your bikes for the last time today and have one last time to take in the impressive landscape. A stop at the Pankrazhofer organic farm in Tragwein is a must: there are cider, fruit juices, vinegar and mustard varieties from their own orchards and fields around the farm. At the end, you board the train and return to the provincial capital of Linz, where your journey began.
