The essentials at a glance

Cycle along the Inn River from Innsbruck to Passau through Austria and Germany. The route passes through picturesque towns including Hall, Kufstein, Wasserburg, Mühldorf, Altötting, Burghausen with Europe's longest castle, and Schärding. Highlights include the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, the European nature reserve Lower Inn, and the baroque city of Passau at the confluence of Inn and Danube. Easy to moderate difficulty with daily distances of 35-50 km. Includes train transfer from Brixlegg to Kufstein.

As the name suggests, the Inn Cycle Path follows the river of the same name through the Tyrolean mountains, on to Bavaria and Upper Austria and ends in the three-river city of Passau. Most of the time you cycle comfortably along flat cycle paths. Numerous highlights await you along the way: Landscape, nature, culture and cities are lined up one after the other and offer plenty of variety. In addition to the Alpine town of Innsbruck, the fortified towns of Kufstein and Burghausen, the picturesque Baroque towns of Obernberg and Schärding are also on your route. Another impressive natural spectacle awaits you in Passau: the confluence of the Inn, Danube and Ilz rivers.

  • Mountain enthusiasts: This trip has something for every hiker.
  • Nature lovers: The Inn Cycle Path inspires with lakes, forests, and fantastic mountains.

Highlights

Innsbruck, Kaiserliche Hofburg
At the end of the 15th century, when Emperor Maximilian I filled the castle with magnificent court life, the building already had the extension of the Imperial Palace to Innsbruck.

Innsbruck, Nordkettenbahn
With the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahn you can travel in a few minutes from the city center to the spectacular landscape of the Nordkette with a breathtaking view of Innsbruck, the unofficial capital of the Alps on the one hand and the Karwendel Nature Park on the other.

Passau
Three rivers from three directions - the Danube from the west, the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north - make the landscape around Passau at the corner of the three rivers a unique beauty. Add to this the baroque old town, which was created by Italian masters in the 17th century and in the center of which rises majestically the Cathedral of St. Stephen with the largest cathedral organ in the world. Here, charm and beauty, history and culture, art and adventure come together.

St. Stephen's Cathedral Passau
St. Stephen's Cathedral is a baroque church built in 1688. Since 730, there have been many churches built on the site of the current cathedral. The current church, a baroque building around 100 metres long, was built from 1668 to 1693 after a fire in 1662 destroyed its predecessor, of which only the late gothic eastern side remains. The cathedral's overall plan was made by Carlo Lurago, its interior decoration by Giovanni Battista Carlone, and its frescos by Carpoforo Tencalla.
