From Rothenburg ob der Tauber to the Danube
The Altmühl rises in the Frankenhöhe region, not far from Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It is one of the slowest-flowing rivers in Germany. Follow its example and take it easy. Cycle leisurely through a region that deserves to slow down. Visit the medieval Colmberg Castle and the imposing Rococo palace in Ansbach. Discover tranquil river swimming pools, visit the venerable Baroque, episcopal, and university town of Eichstätt, and marvel at the secrets of the ancient art of falconry in Riedenburg - or, more precisely, at Rosenburg Castle, located there.
You can also explore the Altmühl Valley in combination with the Danube. Interesting stops along the Danube include: Bad Gögging, which was already valued as a spa town by the ancient Romans, Weltenburg Abbey, the famous Danube Gorge, the medieval town of Vohburg, Ingolstadt, and, of course, the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg.
