Hotel tour Mainz

Mainz, the beautiful state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate, not only offers a rich history and impressive sights, but is also the starting point for most of our cycle tours along the Rhine and is therefore very important to us.
We choose our hotel partners carefully and pay particular attention to a perfect blend of comfort and service so that our cycling friends get a good first impression and feel comfortable from the start of their trip.
We were last in Mainz a good four years ago to see our partner hotels, meet the contact persons in person and exchange ideas about current developments.
So it was clear – we absolutely had to go back to Mainz.
After a quick “good morning” in the office and checking the most important e-mails, Steffi and I set off at the end of January to visit three of our partner hotels.

Mercure Hotel Mainz City Center, Mainz

Mr Axel greets us personally in the lobby after our arrival in Mainz, and then gives us a tour of the premises. We learn a lot about the history of the building, the renovation and upcoming projects. We talk about our cyclists, their preferences and how well Velociped fits with the Mercure Hotel Mainz. Our long-standing collaboration is valuable for both sides.

The hotel is ideally located just a few steps from the train station and not far from the old town. It has been completely renovated in the last five years or so and now presents itself with an open reception area and modern yet cosy furnishings in a mid-century design. The warm and personal check-in, secure storage for bicycles and luggage, and perfectly equipped rooms ensure that our guests feel completely at home at the Mercure Hotel. The breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired – from savoury to sweet dishes, from cold cuts to vegan options, everything is included.

After a good 1.5 hours, it is time for us to end the warm exchange and look forward to the next reunion – probably a private holiday during Carnival.

Top Hotel Hammer, Mainz

We arrive at our appointment with Mr Kapoor a good 15 minutes early, i.e. well before the appointed time, and are still given a very warm welcome. After a brief chat in the bar, we are given a tour of the hotel rooms and the other rooms in the building.

The charming Top Hotel Hammer is a privately-owned hotel situated in the heart of Mainz, right next to the main train station. It impresses with its traditional flair and friendly atmosphere. Numerous attractions such as the Mainz Cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum are just a 20-minute walk away. The inviting reception area welcomes guests warmly, while the classically furnished rooms ensure a peaceful night's sleep thanks to soundproof windows. You can end the evening in the cosy Finnish sauna or with a delicious cocktail at the small but fine bar. The multilingual hotel team does everything to make their guests' stay as pleasant as possible, which gives us a very good feeling when booking overnight stays in Mainz.

Mr Kapoor lives and breathes hospitality, loves being a host and is very much looking forward to continuing our collaboration. Our cyclists and also the logisticians who ensure that everything runs smoothly on site are seen as friendly – there is no better feedback than that for us at the moment. An all-round successful appointment.

Lunch break at Zenz Wirtshaus

After a morning full of impressions and warm conversations, we need a break. During a short walk in the fresh air on the station forecourt, we see the menu of the Zenz Wirtshaus with its vegetarian dumplings and other vegan dishes. Exactly the right thing to enhance our journey to Mainz by car in terms of sustainability. In the inviting, rustic industrial atmosphere, we enjoy the non-alcoholic cocktail and the truly outstanding dishes, and can discuss the hotel impressions from the morning in a relaxed manner. After a tasty break, we are well strengthened for the next hotel appointment, with a long-standing hotel partner as well.

Hotel Königshof, Mainz

Ms Krawetzke also gives us a very warm welcome and is positive that we will finally be able to show us the house without restrictive hygiene measures after our last visit during the coronavirus pandemic. She proudly shows us the freight elevator in the back office area, which is still under construction. Hotel guests' bicycles can soon be conveniently and effortlessly transported to the large basement room with charging stations and bicycle equipment. The numerous bicycle guests will now be able to enjoy their stay at the Königshof even more.

The Königshof is also located directly at the train station in Mainz and is therefore, just like the other two hotels, an ideal arrival hotel at the start of a cycle tour along the Rhine. It is perfect for travellers who are looking for authentic, personal care and the special flair of a historic hotel. Above all, the individual care provided by the hotel staff makes your stay an unforgettable experience. The simply designed rooms with soundproof windows will help you forget the hustle and bustle of the station forecourt and enjoy a restful night's sleep. The Re Castello restaurant is another place in the hotel where you can spend time in peace and quiet and enjoy delicious Italian cuisine, including pizzas from the stone oven, fresh salads and tasty pasta dishes.

Our conclusion

It was a successful day trip today, which has whetted our appetite for the upcoming cycling season and further hotel appointments. Through personal discussions and an open exchange, both sides are constantly sensitised, whereby new paths are shown or existing ways of working are confirmed. Our next ‘field trip’ is already being planned.
