tour description

Gigantic, powerful and unique

On this exciting trip, you will get to know the complete Lake Constance. You have extra time for Constance with its historic old town and beautiful promenade, discover Überlingen, Meersburg and Friedrichshafen. Lindau and Bregenz are located right on your route. Along the Hochrhein, you cycle via Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen, whose medieval town is dominated by the fortress Munot. Enjoy the highlight, the most powerful waterfall in Central Europe! By boat (boat trip included in the travel price) you will get to the Rheinfallfelsen and experience the full force of the thundering water masses. Afterwards you cycle through the island Reichenau back to Constance.

1. day Constance arrival

Travel early, it's worth it! Take the opportunity to stroll through the old town of Constance. Take your time and visit the aquariums of the Sea Life Center and the National Archaeological Museum.

2. day Constance - Radolfzell - Überlingen, ca. 50 km

After breakfast, start your first cycling tour. The Lake Constance cycle path takes you quickly to the old imperial town and today's Kneipp rehabilitation location Radolfzell. Bishop Radolf of Verona founded Radolfzell in 826 as a spiritual destination. Afterwards a fishing village had been established and finally the today's flourishing town of Radolfzell developed. Visit the famous city museum in the "Alte Stadtapotheke", stroll through the streets of Radolfzell old town and visit the Cathedral of Our Lady. Then you circle the western tip of Lake Constance. Look forward to the north bank, as it will spoil you with numerous historical testimonies: monasteries, imperial cities, baroque churches and old castles. Visit the cathedral of St. Nicholas, the biggest Gothic church on Lake Constance, the town hall with one of the most beautiful late Gothic council rooms in Southern Germany and the city garden built in 1875. Let yourself be enchanted by the stately patrician houses, fortified towers and the historic old town of Überlingen.

3. day Überlingen – Lindau, ca. 60 km (cat. A) or Überlingen - Kressbronn/Nonnenhorn, ca. 50 km (cat. B)

This morning you visit the reconstructed pile dwelling in Unter-Uhldingen. During a 30-minute guided tour through selected houses from the Neolithic and Bronze Age period, you will be amazed at the abilities of the people of that time. Afterwards you continue your tour and cycle to Meersburg. This small town awaits you with numerous attractions. Visit the Old Castle, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany and the last residence of the poetess Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. Admire the New Palace with its magnificent staircase of Balthasar Neumann and stroll over the square, which is lined with picturesque half-timbered houses. Accompanied by the most beautiful alpine panorama you cycle to the lively city of Friedrichshafen. Visit the famous Zeppelin Museum, before the Lake Constance cycle route takes you to Langenargen. Stunning over the suspension bridge, which is considered to be the small example of the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

4. day Lindau – Arbon, ca. 50 km (cat. A) or Kressbronn - Höchst/ Rorschach, ca. 40/50 km (cat. B)

Today you cycle through extensive orchards and reach the Bavarian island town Lindau, whose old town is completely on an island and is under monument protection. Here a small round trip is a must! You will be amazed by the beautiful lakeside promenade, where the lighthouse and the lion frame the famous harbor entrance. With a view of the famous mountain range of the Alps you cycle along the "Bregenzer Bucht" to the famous festival town Bregenz with its unique lake stage. Here a special experience awaits you. Whoever wants to go up into airy heights! A cable car takes you to the Pfänder, the 1064 m high Bregenzer local mountain. Enjoy an overwhelming view of the Alps and Lake Constance. Then continue on the Lake Constance cycle path and cross the young Rhine, which flows here at Höchst to Lake Constance.

5. day Arbon - Constance, 35 km (cat. A) or Höchst - Constance, ca. 60 km (Cat. B)

Today you cycle on the Lake Constance Cycle path on the Swiss side to Kreuzlingen / Constance. Look forward to the town of Arbon with its castle and the half-timbered houses. After a long break, you will cycle mostly along the lake past Romanshorn and many small towns and villages. On your way you should make a stop to try the "Schümli" (= Swiss espresso-based coffee) on one of the many lakeside terraces. With such a fantastic view the cafe is even better!

6. day Constance – Stein am Rhein - Schaffhausen, ca. 50 km

Through picturesque Swiss fishing villages you cycle today on the south bank of the Untersees to Stein am Rhine. What a wonderful city! You will be amazed by the many houses and frescoed houses, the old city gates and the medieval streets. Stein am Rhine proudly bears the nickname "Rothenburg des Hochrheins". After a nice visit, you will cycle to Schaffhausen. Its intact, medieval cityscape is characterized by the fortress of Munot, built in the 16th century according to the principles of Albrecht Dürer's fortification. Visit this remarkable fortress with its characteristic circular form, stroll through the old town with its numerous historical fountains and magnificent houses adorned by bay windows and facade paintings. Enjoy a relaxing evening in one of the many good restaurants in the city and experience the flair of the Fronwagplatz.

7. day Schaffhausen – boat trip Rheinfall - Constance, ca. 55 km + boat trip

Look forward to today's spectacle. You visit the Rhinefall, the most powerful waterfall in Central Europe! A boat takes you to the Rheinfallfelsen, so you can experience the whole force of the thundering waters close up. Along a beautiful river landscape on the other side of the Rhine, you will then cycle back to Stein am Rhein. Via the Lake Constance peninsula Höri, which attracted numerous artists and writers in search of inspiration, you cycle comfortably to Gaienhofen, where you board the ship to the island Reichenau. Look forward to the monastery island Reichenau, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The well-preserved churches of the island are evidence of monastic architecture from the 9th to 11th century. You will be impressed by the carefully restored wall paintings. Also visit Strabo's herb garden, which was rebuilt according to the historical model within the ancient monastery walls of the Cathedral of St. Maria and St. Mark in 1991. With many impressions in the luggage you cycle back to Constance.

8. day Constance departure

The time passed by far too quickly. Your bike trip ends after breakfast at the hotel in Constanz. We would be happy to book extra nights for you, as Lake Constance with its many ferry connections still provides many discoveries.
