Tour
After arriving in Dresden, you will receive your booked bicycles and important information about your cycling tour in the late afternoon. Afterwards, you will have time to stroll through the baroque old town. Discover Dresden's magnificent sights such as the Zwinger, the Frauenkirche, the Royal Palace and the Semper Opera House. End the evening in a relaxed manner and get in the mood for your cycling tour along the Elbe.
The Elbe Cycle Route takes you directly along the river, first to the magnificent Pillnitz Castle, before continuing on to the fascinating Elbe Sandstone Mountains. A detour to the famous Bastei rock formation is definitely worthwhile: after a short climb, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the bizarre rock formations and the meandering course of the Elbe. You can choose how you want to travel back from Bad Schandau to Dresden – either by bike or by S-Bahn (not included).
Your tour first takes you along the Elbe Cycle Route through Saxony's picturesque vineyards to Radebeul, where Karl May once lived. Continuing towards Meissen, you can see the imposing castle hill with its cathedral and Albrechtsburg Castle from afar. A visit to the world-famous porcelain factory is a must, as is a leisurely stroll through the winding streets of the historic old town.
Today, you will cycle along the Saxon Wine Route through idyllic wine villages, most notably Diesbar-Seußlitz. Along the way, numerous wineries invite you to take a pleasant break – a perfect opportunity to taste the regional wines. The baroque Diesbar-Seußlitz Castle with its magnificent park is particularly worth seeing. Your destination for the day is Riesa, the ‘sports city on the Elbe’, which looks back on a long tradition of rowing and cycling. Here, it is worth visiting St. Mary's Abbey with its provost's residence, Trinity Church and the town hall on Poppitzer Platz. And last but not least: Riesa is famous for its pasta factory, whose museum offers an exciting insight into the industrial history of the region.
Fortified by breakfast, you hop on your bikes and follow the Elbe downstream to Mühlberg, where the former Cistercian monastery invites you to explore. For plant lovers, a detour to the Treblitz Tree Park is worthwhile - trees and shrubs from all five continents grow here. Today's destination is the traditional royal seat of Torgau. Particularly worth seeing are the impressive Hartenfels Castle and the castle church, which is considered the first Protestant church building in Germany and was once consecrated by Martin Luther himself.
This stage takes you past the towns of Pretzsch and Elster and the striking castles of Lichtenberg and Pretzsch before you reach the historic town of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Inseparably linked with the name of Martin Luther, it was the starting point of the Reformation 500 years ago when he nailed his theses to the door here. In addition to visiting the Luther Hall, it is worth taking a stroll through the lovingly restored old town. Atmospheric shops and inviting restaurants make an evening walk here a special treat.
Unfortunately, your cycling tour ends after breakfast. We would be happy to book additional nights for you so that you can spend more time on the Elbe.
