Look forward to the 4-star Hotel Blauer Wolf, which is located directly on the market square in Gunzenhausen. The place is located in the heart of the Franconian Lake District, between Altmühlsee and the Brombachsee. A picture-book vacation landscape unfolds here - with water and meadows, bizarre dolomite rocks and fragrant juniper heaths, castles, palaces and romantic little towns. You cycle leisurely along the meandering Altmühl, Bavaria's slowest river. Discover the Altmühlsee and marvel at the lagoon-like bird island in the northern area of the lake, which is one of the most important protected areas for migratory birds in Bavaria.
Enjoy the holiday atmosphere at the Brombachsee, marvel at the Karlsgraben (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the first attempt to connect the Rhine and the Danube, immerse yourself in the world of the Romans in Weißenburg and enjoy a boat trip on the Brombachsee with the MS Brombachsee. The 4-star Hotel Blauer Wolf offers a total of 24 individually designed, air-conditioned rooms. The rooms are equipped with double beds, a separate seating area, a small fridge and WiFi. Enjoy a large selection of freshly baked goods, numerous yoghurt and muesli variations, sausage, cheese, homemade jams and fresh eggs for breakfast. After the bike tour, relax in the in-house sauna or in the fitness area. Perhaps you can also treat yourself to a massage from the wide range on offer (as of September 2022: sauna, fitness and massage are currently closed due to the applicable hygiene protection regulations). Experience a wonderful cycling holiday and enjoy your days on the bike in the admirable landscape of the Altmühltal.

1. day Anreise Gunzenhausen
Individual arrival in the Altmühltal in Gunzenhausen. In the afternoon you can take a first short tour of the old town with half-timbered houses and baroque buildings.
2. day Ausflug nach Herrieden 65 km
Today's bike tour takes you through beautiful landscapes, through fields and meadows to Herrieden. A city tour with the monastery basilica, the city palace and the almost completely preserved city wall is worthwhile. On the way back you can cycle comfortably along the Altmühltal cycle path and enjoy the wonderful views.
3. day Rundtour Dennenloher See 35 km
After breakfast you cycle to Lake Dennenloher. Let yourself be enchanted by the dreamlike natural idyll and take your time to visit Dennenlohe Castle with its picturesque parks. Explore the romantic Rhododenron Park on a walk and discover the Bhutanese temple, the herb garden and numerous plants and sculptures from all over the world.
4. day Brombachsee 50 km
Today offers perfect bathing opportunities. Sandy beaches and wide lawns line the shores of the lake. Look forward to a dreamlike tour around the large Brombachsee and enjoy delicious Franconian specialties in a beer garden. Take a boat trip on the "MS Brombachsee" to marvel at the lake from a different perspective. Afterwards it goes back to the hotel.
5. day Weißenburg und Altmühltal-Radweg 60 km
Freshly strengthened, today's day takes you south along the Brombachsee to the residential town of Ellingen. History can be experienced on a guided tour through the town, which is well worth seeing, with its impressive residence and castle church. The next highlight awaits you in the medieval Roman town of Weißenburg with the Roman thermal baths and the St. Andreas Tower. On the Altmühl cycle path, you return to Gunzenhausen - full of impressions.
6. day Altmühlsee und Vogelschutzgebiet 60 km
Today you start on the Altmühlradweg to the nearby Altmühlsee. Enjoy the peaceful nature along the beautiful bike path and pack your bathing suit. In addition, the Altmühlsee with its bird island is home to one of the most important protected areas for migratory birds in Bavaria. The bird sanctuary can be reached on foot via a wooden walkway in the northern part of the lake.
7. day Departure Gunzenhausen
Unfortunately, today it is already time to say goodbye to your beautiful trip in Altmühltal. After breakfast, you will travel home on your own. You are also welcome to extend your trip and spend additional nights in Gunzenhausen.

Arrival by train
Gunzenhausen can be reached via the Munich-Würzburg and Pleinfeld-Gunzenhausen railway lines. Current timetables can be found at www.bahn.com/en:
Parking at the arrival hotel
Public parking is available near the arrival hotel. All costs incurred are to be paid on site. For further information you can get in touch with the respective arrival hotel after you have received your hotel list.
Condition of the bike lanes
You cycle on small, low-traffic country roads as well as on asphalt or fine gravel bike paths and paved forest paths. The well-signposted routes run on flat stages with no significant inclines.
Available rental bikes
There are unisex touring bikes with 24-gear derailleur and freewheel, as well as unisex electric bikes with freewheel. The bikes are equipped with a saddlebag, as well as one handlebar bag per room, a tool set, lock, air pump and odometer.
Extra costs that are not included in the tour price
Any city tax that may be incurred are not part of the tour price and is therefore payable locally at the hotel.

Altmühlsee
Im oberen Tal der Altmühl gelegen, gehört der Altmühlsee zu einem der beliebtesten Ausflugsziele in Mittelfranken. Für Radfahrer und Wanderer steht ein sehr gut ausgebauter Rundweg um den See zur Verfügung. Rund um den Altmühlsee finden sich faszinierende Naturlandschaften, so z.B. auch die so genannte Vogelinsel, im nördlichen Bereich des Sees, die als eines der wichtigsten Schutzgebiete für Zugvögel in Bayern gilt.
Brombachsee
Der Große Brombachsee bildet zusammen mit den beiden Vorsperren Kleiner Brombachsee und Igelsbachsee den Brombachsee und ist er der größte Stausee des Fränkischen Seenlandes. Er gilt als wichtiges Naherholungsgebiet und bietet neben vielen Wassersportmöglichkeiten auch Rundfahrten mit dem Trimaran MS Brombachsee.
Karlsgraben
Zwischen Altmühl und Rezat liegt eines der größten technischen Kulturdenkmäler des frühen Mittelalters: Die "Fossa Carolina", der Karlsgraben. Karl der Große ließ hier um das Jahr 793 einen rund 3000 m langen Kanal ausheben, um bequem mit Schiffen in den Südosten seines Reiches fahren zu können. Eine heute noch 500 m lange Wasserfläche und daran anschließende Erdwälle zeugen von dem ersten Versuch, Rhein, Main und Donau durch eine Wasserstraße zu verbinden.
Residenz Ansbach
Die Residenz entwickelte sich aus einer mittelalterlichen Anlage und war der Regierungssitz der Markgrafen zu Brandenburg-Ansbach. Heute beherbergt die Residenz die Regierung von Mittelfranken. Zu den Hauptattraktionen der Residenz zählen der doppelgeschossige Festsaal, der mit einem Deckenfresko von Carlo Carlone geschmückt ist, das Spiegelkabinett und der Kachelsaal mit rund 2.800 Fliesen aus der ehemaligen Ansbacher Fayencemanufaktur. Der Hofgarten nahe der Residenz ist im französisch-barocken Stil errichtet. Mittelpunkt des Gartens ist die Orangerie, die heute als Restaurant genutzt wird.
Weißenburg
Die Altstadt von Weißenburg steht komplett unter Denkmalschutz und wird Sie mit mit vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten von der Antike bis heute begeistern. Das historische Stadtbild wird geprägt von spätmittelalterlichen Fachwerkhäusern, der gut erhaltenen Stadtmauer, dem mittelalterlichen Stadttor "Ellinger Tor" und dem gotischen Rathaus.
