The essentials at a glance

Bike and sail tour aboard the three-masted barquentine Antigua between Denmark and Sweden. Explore Copenhagen's landmarks, cycle along the Øresund coast to Helsingør with Kronborg Castle, visit the island of Ven, and discover the UNESCO World Heritage chalk cliffs of Stevns Klint. The route includes Helsingborg, Landskrona, and Malmö with the university town of Lund. Easy to moderate cycling on mostly paved paths through flat to gently rolling terrain.

This sailing and cycling tour aboard the Antigua or Mare Frisum takes you through the charming region around the Öresund—between Denmark and Sweden. From Copenhagen, you’ll cycle along the coast to Helsingør, home to the famous Kronborg Castle. The journey continues along the “Danish Riviera” and by boat to Sweden.
From Helsingborg, you’ll explore the coast of Skåne, the fortified town of Landskrona, and the idyllic island of Ven with its cliffs, farmhouses, and the historic Tycho Brahe Observatory. You’ll then sail south to Køge or Rødvig and visit the impressive white cliffs of Stevns Klint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Finally, the journey takes you under the Öresund Bridge to Malmö. There, you’ll find modern architecture, historic old-town streets, and the option of a bike tour around Malmö or to the university town of Lund. This special cycling and sailing trip comes to an atmospheric close with a Captain’s Dinner on board.

Highlights

Øresund
The Øresund is the strait between Zealand (Denmark) and Scania (Sweden) that connects the Baltic Sea with the Kattegat. The two largest cities on the Øresund are Copenhagen and Malmö.

Copenhagen
Copenhagen has been named the “World’s Most Livable City” several times. Among the reasons for this are the exciting architecture that characterizes many parts of the Danish capital, its numerous green spaces, and the clean harbor, where you can even go swimming.

Helsingør
Helsingør is located at the narrowest point of the Öresund. One of Northern Europe’s most significant Renaissance castles can be found here: Kronborg Castle. It gained particular fame as the setting for William Shakespeare’s *Hamlet*.

Køge
Køge is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Denmark. You can get a sense of what life was like for the people of Køge in the Middle Ages at the Køge Museum, which is housed in a historic building. The picturesque townscape enchants visitors with its many half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Helsingborg
The city of Helsingborg—the gateway to the north—is located at the narrowest point of the Öresund Strait between Sweden and Denmark in the historic province of Skåne (Scania). Like many other cities, Helsingborg was once Danish and was returned to Sweden in 1658 under the Treaty of Roskilde.

The barquentine Antigua was built in Great Britain in 1957 as a fishing vessel. In 1993, she was converted into a traditional three-masted barque, resulting in an elegant ship with excellent sailing characteristics. The new deckhouse was built in 2021. The 15 comfortable cabins are all located on the lower deck of the 49-meter-long ship. Eight of the cabins have two separate beds, and seven have bunk beds. All cabins are equipped with central heating and a porthole. For safety reasons, the portholes cannot be opened.

The Antigua’s dining and lounge area is located on the main deck. Here you’ll also find the well-stocked bar. If you’d like to feel the breeze on your face, there’s a large furnished deck. Additionally, there’s a deck saloon for cooler weather. Aboard the Antigua, you can expect an experienced, dedicated crew, excellent catering, and a unique sailing experience on an authentic three-masted ship. Modern navigation technology and high safety standards make a voyage on this sturdy vessel an unforgettable adventure.

Tour

Boarding begins at 5:30 p.m. on the ship, which is located near the city center across from the opera house. After you settle into your cabin, the captain, tour guide, and crew will welcome you with a welcome drink. You will then enjoy your first dinner on board. Afterward, you will receive information about the itinerary, the ship, and safety procedures. Bicycles will be distributed in the evening or the following morning.

After disembarking, you’ll cycle past the Little Mermaid and the Kastellet on quiet bike paths as you head out of Copenhagen. The route runs along the Öresund, but also through wooded areas and idyllic villages inland. Along the way, it’s worth visiting the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art before you reach Helsingør. There, you’ll find the historic city center, the harbor, and the imposing Kronborg Castle, which inspired Shakespeare to write *Hamlet*. The restored harbor buildings, featuring a market and a maritime museum, are also worth seeing.

After breakfast, you’ll cycle along the “Danish Riviera” with its wide sandy beaches to the small harbor of Hornbæk. The route then heads inland through gently rolling countryside to Esrum, where a stop at the medieval monastery on Lake Esrum is well worth it. The route takes you back to Helsingør through fields and past castles and country estates. A shorter alternative leaves you time to explore the city in the afternoon. During dinner, your ship will cross the Öresund to Helsingborg. Upon arrival, take a short stroll through the beautiful Swedish port city.

In the morning, you’ll cycle along the coast of Skåne toward Landskrona. Along the way, you’ll pass beautiful beaches and the former fishing village of Borstahusen with its picturesque fishermen’s cottages. In Landskrona, it’s worth taking a look at the nearly completely preserved 16th-century citadel. Around noon, you’ll take the ferry to the small island of Ven, a true gem in the Öresund. Explore the island by bike and visit artists’ studios, cafés, the whiskey distillery, or the Tycho Brahe Observatory. Since the harbor is too small for the large ship, you’ll be picked up by a tender in the late afternoon. The ship will anchor off the coast overnight.

Today, you and your bicycles will stay on board. Weather permitting, the ship will sail from Ven under the Öresund Bridge toward the southern part of Zealand. Enjoy the ride on the deck of the tall ship. Depending on weather conditions, you’ll head for Køge or Rødvig. Between these two towns lie the impressive white limestone cliffs of Stevns Klint. This sparsely populated region is designated as a Dark Sky Area and offers a magnificent view of the starry sky on clear nights.

If your bike tour starts in Rødvig, the tender will first take you from the ship to shore. From there, you’ll cycle to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Stevns Klint with its chalk cliffs, the village of Højerup, and the famous Cliff Church. The route then continues to Køge, where you’ll have time to stroll through the historic center of this medieval town. If the bike tour starts in Køge, the stage is a bit longer and also leads to the chalk cliffs of Stevns Klint before you return to Køge. In the evening, the ship sets sail for Malmö.

This short, half-day round-trip tour takes you to various sights in the city center and through Malmö’s outskirts to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Öresund Bridge and the city. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore Malmö on your own. The longer day trip takes you along quiet country roads to the lively university town of Lund, one of Sweden’s oldest cities. There, you’ll find the historic center and the magnificent 12th-century cathedral. You’ll cycle back to the ship along the coast—with a chance to enjoy an ice cream or take one last dip in the sea. In the evening, you’ll enjoy the captain’s farewell dinner.

Your cycling and sailing tour between Denmark and Sweden ends today after breakfast at 9:30 a.m.

Itinerary an program changes:
The planned route is always subject to possible changes due to nautical, meteorological or organisational reasons. If, for example, a route cannot be travelled due to low water, high water, bad weather or construction work, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety. This is not a legally valid reason for cancelling the trip free of charge. The same applies in the event of officially ordered lock or bridge repairs or in the event of engine or propulsion damage to the ship through no fault of the captain.

As your ship usually sails to the next harbour on the same day, your time frame for your own activities and sightseeing is limited. On some bridges, the clearance height is so low that the sun deck is closed for your safety.

SGR Guaranteefund:
For this trip, there is a fee of 5.00 euros per traveller for the SGR guarantee fund. This fee is mandatory for this trip and will be shown separately on the invoice.

Fuel surcharge:
A fuel surcharge, which may apply due to the sharp rise in fuel prices, is not included in the cruise price and must be paid in cash on arrival on board the ship. We will inform you of the amount of the surcharge, if any, approx. 4 weeks before arrival.
