tour highlights
Salzkammergut
In addition to the four towns in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut, Bad Goisern, Gosau, Hallstatt and Obertraun, there is also a lot to discover in the neighboring towns and communities. The Salzkammergut lakes would be a veritable lake district if they were not separated by mountains such as the Schafberg, the Höllengebirge, the Tote gebirge and the Osterhorn group. Their location ranges from just under 500 m above sea level. A. at the Mondsee to high mountain lakes such as the Wildensee (1535 m) in the Dead Mountains north of the Grundlsee. Several dozen lakes invite you to swim: large inland lakes such as Traunsee or Attersee, or small mountain lakes such as Almsee, Offensee or Laudachsee.
Bad Goisern
Surrounded by mountain panoramas, located directly on the beautiful Lake Hallstatt, Bad Goisern enchants with its charming town center, the houses decorated with flowers, beautiful landscape and many idyllic places. With its good infrastructure, "Goisern" is a popular holiday resort for relaxation, as a climatic health resort and as a starting point for exploring the surrounding nature of the UNESCO World Heritage region.
Bad Ischl
In the heart of the Salzkammergut, surrounded by the rivers Traun and Ischl, lies the spa town of Bad Ischl. As early as the 19th century, the emperor appreciated the fantastic location and the harmonious nature and enjoyed his summer residence in the charming place, which is why Bad Ischl is also called the "Imperial City". Hardly any other historic town manages to carry its history into the present as wonderfully as Bad Ischl. With its sympathetic way of bringing history into the present day, the heart of the Salzkammergut offers you a diverse space for adventure.
Hallstatt
There is a lot to discover in Hallstatt: Numerous listed buildings convey a very special charm. The most outstanding buildings include the Catholic parish church with the late Gothic winged altar and the world-famous ossuary. But of course Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut also offers numerous other leisure activities and excursion destinations.
St. Wolfgang
The operetta "Das Weisses Rössl am Wolfgangsee" has made Lake Wolfgang known far beyond the borders of the country with its feel-good melodies. Anyone who takes a seat in the legendary hotel on the lake shore today to enjoy a melange and an apple strudel actually believes they are on a film set. Everything is as you imagine it. And yet we have long since arrived in the 21st century.
Schloss Orth
Orth Castle, picturesquely situated on a tiny island in Lake Traunsee, owes much of its fame to a German-Austrian television series: for eight years, from 1996 to 2004, people lived, loved and married in the "Schlosshotel Orth". To this day, the series is a strong crowd puller and attracts numerous visitors to Seeschloss Ort every year. The Seeschloss Ort is not only one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut, it also has exciting stories to tell: for example the legend of the giant Erla, who is said to have built the castle out of love for the Traunsee mermaid Blondchen. And from the first historically mentioned owner, the knight Hartneid von Ort, through the cruel Count Herbestorff, to the Habsburg Archduke Johann Nepomuk Salvator, many a colorful personality has resided here.
Salzbergwerk Hallstatt
For more than 7,000 years, the Hallstatt high valley has determined the fates, hardships and achievements of the people in this region due to the vital importance of salt. Here you will find stories of the dark days and the radiant power of the "white gold" at every turn. Embark on a mysterious path into the treasury of mankind on the daily guided tours through the Hallstatt salt mines. On an excursion through the history of the earth, imagination, effective staging and exciting information that you will not only experience in the course of the journey through time, but will experience it with all your senses.
