Tour

Individual arrival at Lake Zell. Start into your holiday with a relaxing walk along the lakeshore. In around 30 minutes, you will reach the centre of Zell am See, where cosy restaurants, small shops and the special lakeside atmosphere provide the perfect setting for an enjoyable first evening.

Today combines nostalgic rail travel, spectacular nature and relaxed cycling. Your day begins with a journey on the traditional Pinzgau local railway to Mittersill, before continuing towards one of the region’s most impressive natural sights: the Krimml Waterfalls (admission included). Here, powerful cascades plunge down several tiers into the valley. Take your time to experience the sheer force of the water up close. Then it is time to get back on your bike. Following the Tauern Cycle Path, you cycle through beautiful mountain scenery back towards Mittersill, with wonderful views of the Hohe Tauern and the Kitzbühel Alps along the way. Back in the charming mountain town, another highlight awaits at the National Park Worlds (admission included). This interactive Alpine experience offers fascinating insights into the Hohe Tauern National Park and the mountain world surrounding the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest peak. To round off the day, relax once more on the Pinzgau local railway.

Today, you follow the popular Tauern Cycle Path through the varied landscapes of the Salzburg region. Lush meadows, traditional farmhouses and gently rolling hills accompany you along the way, with only a short section on the main road. After a brief climb, you reach Taxenbach – the perfect place for a break and a special excursion into nature. At the impressive Kitzloch Gorge (admission included), you enter a fascinating world of rock, rushing water and historic walkways. Paths and tunnels lead you through the narrow gorge, while the Rauriser Ache thunders below and plunges dramatically over waterfalls. Back on your bike, you continue along the Salzach River through the valley towards St. Johann im Pongau. From here, the train takes you comfortably back.

The included train ticket for bicycle transport is valid on Day 3 only.

Today’s ride is framed by sparkling lake waters, lush green meadows and the majestic peaks of the Salzburg Alps. Starting directly from your hotel, you cycle to the northern shore of Lake Zell and continue to the peaceful village of Maishofen. From a distance, you can already spot the historic Schloss Kammer, dating back to the 16th century. Today, this family-run establishment invites you to stop and enjoy some delicious regional specialities. Refreshed, you continue via Almdorf to Maria Alm, beautifully nestled among the mountains. Take some time to explore the village, where the striking church immediately catches the eye: its tower is the highest in the Salzburg region and can be seen from afar. Your next stop is Saalfelden, where a packed lunch filled with regional specialities awaits you at the Saalachtaler Bauernladen (included). Afterwards, a detour to the idyllic Lake Ritzen is well worthwhile. Situated right by the lake, the Schloss Ritzen Museum (admission included) offers history enthusiasts a fascinating glimpse into the past. Finally, you cycle back through beautiful Alpine scenery via Maishofen and Neunbrunnen bringing a day full of memorable impressions to a close.

Today is all about Lake Zell and the spectacular mountain scenery around Kaprun. Starting directly from your hotel, you cycle along the lakeside promenade and follow the northern shore of the lake. Along the way, a short detour to the historic Schloss Prielau, with its small Trinity Chapel dating from 1730, is well worthwhile. Take your time and enjoy the ride at your own pace. Stop for a game of mini golf or beach volleyball, or cool off with a refreshing swim in the lake on warmer days. If you would like to give your legs a rest, you can enjoy part of the route on a boat trip across Lake Zell (included). Back at the hotel, another highlight awaits: the Kitzsteinhorn. The included cable car ride takes you high into a fascinating Alpine world. At Gipfelwelt 3000, the highest viewing platform in the Salzburg region rewards you with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. For an even more relaxed day, we recommend visiting the Kitzsteinhorn in the morning and enjoying your cycle tour around Lake Zell in the afternoon.

After breakfast, your wonderful cycling holiday comes to an end. Make your own way home, taking plenty of unforgettable memories of Lake Zell and the Salzburg mountains with you. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home.

The above itinerary is a suggestion. With this radial bike tour, we offer you a choice of different day trips. You are free to decide each day which of these tours you would like to undertake, allowing you to choose whether you prefer shorter or longer stages, challenging or easier day trips, or simply taking a break from cycling.
