Look forward to the Lahn Cycle Path and the eventful historic university town of Marburg with its attractive surrounding countryside. Here you will find Hessen's best network of cycle paths, a multitude of attractive sights and inviting places to eat and drink in the city and the countryside. In the evening, you have a wide choice of gastronomic offerings and a colourful variety of cultural options in the medieval old town. You cycle along the well-signposted Lahn cycle path, on former railway tracks and along secluded forest paths. The cycle routes are mostly flat, with only a few climbs to master. All in all, this attractive star tour offers real enjoyment of nature, interesting sightseeing and varied gastronomic options in the young, lively university town of Marburg.

Highlights:

The Landgrave's Palace of Marburg
Marburg Castle is one of the most striking buildings in the city of Marburg. It was built as a castle in the 11th century and, in addition to its historical significance as the first residence of the Landgraviate of Hessen, is of great interest in terms of art and architectural history.

Das Landgrafenschloss Marburg

The Elisabeth Church in Marburg
As the first purely Gothic hall church on German soil, the Elisabethkirche is of special significance in terms of art history. The simple early Gothic architecture of the building is a special experience for many visitors. From the end of 2021, the Elisabethkirche will be renovated! For this reason, some areas will be inaccessible and there will be restrictions.

Elisabethkirche Marburg

The Old University of Marburg
They are old in any case, the foundations of the Dominican monastery founded in 1291, on which the building now known as the "Old University" was erected in the last third of the 19th century in neo-Gothic style. And knowledge has been intensively cultivated in this place since 1527. In that year, the Hessian Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous founded the Marburg University of Applied Sciences - the oldest Protestant university foundation to survive to this day.

Die Alte Universität Marburg

Spiegelslust Marburg
The Spiegelslust excursion destination is always worth a visit. Enjoy the most beautiful view of Marburg from the magnificent panorama terrace while having coffee and cake or a hearty lunch.

Spiegelslustturm

The Brücker Mill
Experience the atmosphere of an old mill and see how the simple but fascinating and still up-to-date technology of a mill works.

Brueckermuehle

Rauischholzhausen Castle
A particularly worthwhile destination is the castle in Rauischholzhausen with its beautiful castle park. Since 2004, cultural events and catering have also been held here. The 30-hectare English-style castle park was planted with about 300 different types of trees. The two watercourses that run through the park are dammed into ponds at several points. The park is open to the public all year round.

Tour

Arrive in Marburg in good time today and discover the famous Elisabeth Church, the Marburg Landgrave's Castle and, of course, the old town, which is well worth seeing. If you arrive on a Saturday, you can take part in the two-hour guided tour of the city at 3.00 p.m. and get an optimal overview from a professional hand and certainly also some insider tips!

The next round tour in the bicycle saddle is waiting for you. On varied cycle paths, forest tracks and farm tracks you will once again discover the scenic diversity around Marburg. Your destination for the day, the "Dammühle", is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the hinterland and will delight you with its idyllic beer garden. The "Dammühle" is a historic, listed water mill that has been in the family for more than 300 years. Take in a game of mini-golf and fortify yourself for the return journey, which begins with a short climb (approx. 500 m long). Whether you finally arrive in Marburg early in the afternoon or not until nightfall depends more on the length of your break in the beer garden than on the short climb?

Today you cycle to the more than 700-year-old Brücker Mühle, where you can experience the complex production process from grain to flour during a tour of the running historic mill true to the original. Afterwards, fortify yourself in the idyllic mill yard or on the green sofa in the old pump room. Now it's time to set off again, high up into the historic excursion town of Amöneburg. The ascent is not without effort, but you will be rewarded with a unique panoramic view, a wonderful circular wall walk and finally a roaring descent. The return to Marburg on completely flat cycle paths rounds off the first day of the excursion.

Almost a cycling-free day, but you can't do without pedalling. In the morning you will need your pedal power to explore the Lahn and Marburg from the water in a pedal boat. Afterwards you can take a forest walk up to the Spiegelslustturm, the most beautiful viewing terrace over Marburg. From the tower you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view over the city and the countryside and proudly reconstruct the cycling routes you have mastered over the past few days. The afternoon is at leisure and can be used for further sightseeing or a leisurely stroll through the many winding alleys of the old town.

And we have another real highlight for you. You cycle along a former railway line on a romantic cycle path towards your worthwhile destination, Rauischholzhausen Castle and Park. The spacious castle park, an English landscape park of about 30 hectares with almost 300 different tree species, has been under landscape protection since 1956 and was included in the European themed route of the 'European Garden Heritage Network' in 2009. The park, the castle and the nice café will delight you. Your return journey takes you along the beautiful railway line, before it is time to say goodbye to all the favourite places in Marburg's old town in the evening.

In the morning your wonderful bicycle - star tour in Marburg ends at the hotel. We wish you a pleasant journey home.
