Tour
Arrive early today in the university town of Jena. Look forward to the beautiful market ensemble, the Zeiss Planetarium worth seeing and Schiller's Garden House. You will find history, art and culture right on your arrival day. Rental bikes are available at the hotel.
Your first stage takes you to Saalfeld past the Thuringian farmhouses, one of the oldest folklore open-air museums on German soil. Near Saalfeld you have the opportunity to visit the famous fairy grotto. Return to Jena individually by train (ticket not included).
The day of the castles! The three Dornburg castles greet you from afar and you should definitely plan to visit them. A fantastic view, the Goethe memorial and the rose garden are unique. Where the Ilm flows into the Saale, discover the proud castles of Saaleck and Rudelsburg. After a worthwhile break, you roll past Schulpforta and along the first vineyards of the Saale-Unstrut region to Naumburg.
Through beautiful riverside forests and meadows, follow the meanders of the Saale to Weißenfels to Neu-Augustusburg Castle and Bad Dürrenberg. Marvel at the 850 m long graduation house, the longest in Europe! The highlight of your cycling day is in Merseburg. The many-towered cathedral-castle ensemble with its castle garden rises imposingly above the Saale. Continue cycling through the Saale floodplains to the over 1,000-year-old saline city of Halle, whose old town, almost unscathed by the war, is now one of the largest area monuments in Germany!
Behind Halle, the cycle path enters the enchanting world of the lower Saale valley. This archaeologically, geologically and ecologically significant landscape is a nature park absolutely worth seeing and a scenic attraction. The cycle path winds through the Saale meadows, modern foot and cycle bridges lead to pretty villages and to Bernburg, probably the most beautiful town on the Saale.
A wonderful day of cycling to the mouth of the Elbe lies ahead of you. Let your soul dangle once more. Floodplain forests, unspoilt nature, quiet country lanes and small ferries will delight you. The journey continues on the right bank of the Elbe via Dornburg and Pretzien. A well-maintained cycle path leads you through the Kreuzhorst nature reserve, which lies just before Magdeburg, the destination of today's tour. Among the sights worth seeing here are the cathedral, the monastery of Our Lady and the Magdeburg Rider. If you want to arrive faster in Mageburg or shorten the stage, you can shorten a part of the route individually by train (not included).
Today after breakfast your beautiful journey ends in Magdeburg. From here you have the best train connections in all directions.
