Be enchanted by the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea, that not only shows off as a national park but also as World Heritage and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Experience first-hand the contrast between high and low tide, endless sky and wide sea, little people and much nature. Twice a day the tidal falls dry at low tide and submerged at high tide again. This gives this district an incredibly rich flora and fauna with animal and plant species found nowhere else in the world. Enjoy two double on the islands of Fohr and Amrun, visit the Halligen, Island Pellworm and the peninsula Nordstrand. Even the culinary region has much to offer: homemade cake with hot Pharisees, 'Deichkäse', 'Salzwiesenlamm', extra fresh crab, golden sand clods and freshly filled fish rolls, which are actually much more than just a minor detail.

Tour

Welcome to the North Sea port of Husum. Explore the beautiful market square dominated by old houses with impressive gabled fronts, the old town hall and the imposing St. Mary's Church.

Enjoy a bike ride along the North Frisian coast with wind in the back and sun in the hair. Breathe in the fresh air, watch the flying skills of the seagulls, take a short walk across the mudflats or use the flood for a refreshing swim. In Dagebüll you start a 45-minute ferry ride to the island of Foehr, at low tide past sandbanks and seal colonies. In the evening you enjoy a spectacular view of the halligen from the beach promenade.

Explore the natural beauty of Föhr that advertises with Frisian Caribbean. The town of Wyk and the 11 island villages are among the tourist highlights of the island. Marvel at quaint thatched cottages, flowering gardens and so many small romantic corners. On your island tour on wonderful cycle paths you will visit beautiful churches and ancient windmills.

A short ferry ride will take you to Wittdün in Amrum. Hardly any other North Sea resort offers such a maritime setting: watching the comings and goings of the ferries, you photograph the colorful image of the shrimp boat and marvel at the fast rescue boats and large and small dinghies and yachts. Boardwalks through the dunes lead to the wide Kniepsand, plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes to take a stroll and enjoy. Cycle to Amruner Lighthouse, the 66 m high landmark on the island. It started operation in 1875 and is open for visitors during summer in the morning. Enjoy the wonderful view over the whole island from the round balcony.

You're spoiled for choice: either have an other vacation day by bike on Amrun, or discover the halligs without bike. The special feature of the halligen is that the islands several times a year – mostly in the winter months - will be flooded by the North Sea. During such a floods only the terps, artificial mound, on which the houses of the inhabitants were built, are out of the water. Visit Königspesel, a Friesenstube from the 18th century, with colorful faience that transfers the living culture of sailors, marvel at the holm church from the 17th century and inform yourself in cinema with a short film on a typical "land submerged".

Back on the mainland, cycle via Dagebüll along the dikes to Bredstedt in North Frisia, the town of Frisian language research. Visit the North Frisia Nature Centre here. It vividly shows you the diverse natural landscapes of the region. Afterwards, you can relax and cycle through the wide, flat marshland back to Husum, the starting point of your beautiful round trip.

After breakfast we say goodbye to the vibrant harbor city and the unique Wadden Sea.
