Explore Fussen, Kempten and the medieval Kleinod Wangen as well as the world-famous castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

1. day Lindau arrival

Welcome to Lake Constance, the Swabian Sea. The labyrinthine Old Town of Lindau is home to beautiful shops and the Cathedral of Our Lady, which dates back to the year 810. It impresses with its ceiling murals as well as its Rococo-style interior. Stroll along the town fortifications from the 12th century or through the narrow laneways past the old town hall.

2. day Lindau - Oberstaufen 55 km

After a short stretch on the lakeshore, follow the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path, which takes you up to the Allgäu. Up to your stage destination, the Schroth-Heilbad Oberstaufen, you cycle past lush green meadows and enjoy the fantastic view of the Allgäu Alps. In the evening, enjoy a tipical meal in one of the traditional restaurants in Oberstaufen.

3. day Oberstaufen

Enjoy a wonderful day in the Allgäu, in the beautifully situated Oberstaufen, directly in the Nagelfluhkette. Whether you want to do a little lap on foot, take the train to one of the many peaks and enjoy the fantastic view from there, or just want to spend a relaxing day in the outdoor pool. The Allgäu is pure vacation!

4. day Oberstaufen - Nesselwang 50 km

You will cycle past Lake Großer Alpsee and through stunning valleys to Immenstadt. Green cow meadows, magnificent Baroque churches and crystal blue water characterise the landscape. After Lake Grüntensee you will reach Nesselwang. You can take the cable railway up to the peak of the Alpspitze. Alternatively, you can marvel at the more than 2500 painted and decorated eggs at the easter museum.

5. day Nesselwang - Füssen 25-60 km

You will soon arrive at Forggensee lake, Germany's biggest reservoir. In Füssen you can visit Hohe Schloss castle, the former summer residence of the Augsburg bishops. Today, it accommodates a gallery. Alternatively you can go on a trip to the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, the famous castle that belonged to Ludwig II.

6. day Füssen - Kempten 70 km

Idyllic Allgäu treasures lie on your route to Kempten, one of the oldest towns in Bavaria. Underneath the Erasmus chapel is a unique museum that tells the history of the town in a room that has been rediscovered. A unique museum. In this residence magnificent rooms await you – some decorated in brilliant colours and others quite simply designed. The various decorative elements give the rooms a special flair.

7. day Kempten - Wangen in Allgäu 65 km

Today you will cycle in the Württembergian Allgäu region. From Kempten you will cycle past the Raggenhorn mountain towards Isny. Here the Old Town is a tempting place to spend some time. You will then continue on to Wangen, which in earlier times was famous throughout the entire region for its farmers’ market. The Old Town of Wangen is a picturesque self-contained ensemble of buildings spanning from the Early Middle Ages to the Late Baroque period.

8. day Wangen im Allgäu - Lindau 45 km

After you have left Wangen, your cycling tour through the Allgäu Region leads you back towards Lake Constance. At Tettnang the second largest hop growing area in Germany begins. The warm climate and the many hours of sunshine between the Allgäu and Lake Constance allow the climbing plants to grow very well. Past Kressbronn you cycle back to Lindau along the shores of the lake. Enjoy the view of the Austrian and Swiss mountains.

9. day Lindau departure

After breakfast your tour through the Allgäu region comeas to an end. We would be more than happy to extend your stay on Lake Constance.

Train schedule information

Parking facilities

Some of the arrival hotels have paid parking facilities. Alternatively, there are two central paid long-term car parks available (Karl-Bever-Platz P3 with 311 parking spaces and Seeparkplatz P5 with 660 parking spaces). Costs around €10.00 per day/car. A reservation is not possible. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents.

Condition of cycle paths

Usually you will cycle on roads with little traffic, but partly on graveld cycle paths as well. As the tour leads through the hilly alpine upland, flat stages alternate with easy and heavy rises and descents.

Because of the demanding stages, we do not recommend this trip for children.

tour highlights

Lindau

The historic old town of Lindau is located on the island in Lake Constance. The island is connected to the mainland by a railway dam and a road bridge.

The entrance to the port is limited by the new lighthouse of 1856 on the west side and the Bavarian lion on the east side. The six-meter high, armed lion sits, leaning on the front lines, sitting on a three-tiered platform from Nagelfluh, and looks to the Swiss bank.

Lindau

Oberstaufen

With the award of the title "Schrothkurort" in November 1959, Oberstaufen was officially recognized as the only Schrothkurort of the Federal Republic. In December 1969 Oberstaufen was recognized as a climatic health resort.

Oberstaufen

Großer Alpsee

The Große Alpsee (Great Alpsee) is the largest natural lake of the Allgäu in the middle of meadows, forests and mountains. In addition to excellent sports facilities, the large alpine lake also offers great bathing facilities around the lake.

Großer Alpsee

Castle Neuschwanstein

The idyllic location of Neuschwanstein is unique. King Ludwig II had built the castle to withdraw from the public. Neuschwanstein is today one of the most visited castles and castles in Europe. Around 1.3 million people visit "the castle of the fairy tale king". In the summer, an average of more than 6,000 visitors daily pass through rooms designed for a single occupant.

Neuschwanstein

Castle Hohenschwangau

Hohenschwangau Castle is located directly opposite Neuschwanstein Castle in Hohenschwangau near Füssen. As a 18-year-old, Maximilian von Bayern, on a hike, discovered the Hohenschwangau castle ruins, which were called "Schwanstein". Spontaneously, he decided to buy and rebuild. In the years 1833 to 1837 he let the remains of the medieval castle to a romantic residential castle expand. The interior and exterior design, the furnishings of the rooms and the more than 90 wall paintings are coordinated with each other and form a harmonious whole. The complex, as Maximilian and his artist architect created it, has been preserved as an extraordinary architectural monument from the time of the Romantic period.

Hohenschwangau Castle

Isny

Isny attracts with a charming historical city center and is embedded in a landscape of gentle hills and small lakes, with a view of the highest mountain of Wurttemberg, the Black Ridge, and the alpine chain on the horizon. The town hall stands at 705 meters high, the highest point reaches with 1.118 meters height of the black ridge.

Wangen Allgäu

The Fidelisbäck, a 500-year-old bakery with adjoining restaurant, is particularly worth a visit, especially because of the extensive façade paintings. A special feature of the city are the many wells, which have been partly enlarged and embellished in the last few years with often eye-opening sculptures.
