Budejovice (Budweis) – Prague
tour description
Pearls of Bohemia:
Hills, valleys and plains, forests and agriculture, lakes and fish ponds - a quiet and varied landscape awaits you on this bike tour. Embedded in this landscape you will find palaces and fortresses of the former rulers, churches and monasteries, small centuries-old towns with neat patrician houses and, last but not least, the famous "Bohemian villages". The rich history of this region can be seen and felt everywhere. You spend the night in middle-class hotels, which, except in Prague, are located in historical town centers. The cycle path mainly leads along side roads with little traffic, only in the cities you cannot avoid sections with traffic. On some days the cycle stage is also slightly hilly.
1. day Ceské Budejovice (Budweis) Arrival
Your journey starts in Budweis. The hotel is located in the center of the beautiful city of Budweis. In the evening you will be greeted and given a detailed introduction to your bike tour. If you arrive by car, you can park comfortably not far from the hotel. Take time to stroll through the largest market square in Bohemia, treat yourself to the view from the Black Tower and enjoy a Budweiser from the barrel!.
2. day Budweis - Wittingau (Trebon) 51 km
Along the Vltava, you first head north on a flat stretch to one of the most beautiful castles in Bohemia: the Tudor-style castle Hluboká. In its almost 140 rooms you can marvel at rich collections of furniture, paintings, porcelain and weapons from different eras. On a slightly hilly route, repeatedly along fish ponds, the cycle path continues eastwards in the direction of Wittingau (Trebon), a beautiful little town right on the lake with a picturesque market square, old town houses and arcades.
3. day Wittingau (Trebon) - Neuhaus (Jindrichuv Hradec) 48 km
Today you cycle through extensive forests and along many ponds to Neuhaus (Jindrichuv Hradec), which is idyllically situated on a lake. Look forward to a beautiful old town with many romantic streets and corners, colorful patrician houses around the main square and an imposing castle. The oldest part of the castle is a castle from the 13th century, which was later expanded. Today this castle is one of the largest and most visited in Bohemia.
4. day Neuhaus (Jindrichuv Hradec) - Tabor 49 km
5. day Tabor - Benesov 56 km
The cycle path leads through Bohemian landscapes on the ´Hussite´ route specially created for cyclists, where you will visit important places in the life of the famous church reformer Jan Hus, to Benesov. Shortly before Benesov, another highlight awaits you, the world-famous Konopiste Castle, where the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy, Archduke Ferdinand, whose murder in Sarajevo triggered the First World War, lived. Over 300,000 (!) Hunting trophies hang in the castle. Did you know that Konopiste is the most visited castle in Bohemia?
6. day Benesov - Prague 46 km
The last bike tour leads over small roads to Prague. At the beginning you cycle through the park of Konopiste Castle, then through the beautiful Bohemian hill country, where you can once again enjoy wonderful views, and finally you reach the end and highlight of your trip - the "Golden Prague".
7. day Prague
Your hotel is in the southeast part of the city. However, you can reach the center in 15 minutes by underground. Take plenty of time for the cultural highlight and destination of this bike tour! In Prague, literally every house, square and street corner invites you to stop and look. Prague has a reputation for being one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has not been given nicknames such as "golden Prague", "hundred-tower Prague" or "crown of the world" for nothing.
8. day Prague Departure
Unfortunately, your bike tour through South Bohemia comes to an end after breakfast. You can return to Budweis by transfer or by train, or you can start your journey home directly from Prague. Of course, you can also extend your stay in Prague, because this city has so much to offer that one day is hardly enough to visit it.
prolongation Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO world heritage)
You can start the journey in Cesky Krumlov instead of Budweis and extend it by one day and 47/55 km.
When you arrive in Ceský Krumlov, you will immediately be captivated by the wonderful panorama of the castle enthroned above the picturesque Renaissance town. A stroll through the historic city center immediately shows why this unique medieval town is on the list of UNESCO monuments. A magnificent gate leads to an elegant palace area with extensive courtyards. Climb the castle tower and enjoy the wonderful view of the old town, which has unique town houses, romantic medieval houses and pubs. Also noteworthy is the St. Veiths Church, in which the family crypt of the noble Rosenbergs is located. During a leisurely evening stroll, you can admire the illuminated five-story bridge that connects the Upper Castle with the Castle Theater.

Trebon
The location of Třeboň, a city in the middle of a protected landscape area in South Bohemia, makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Czech Republic today. Hluboká Castle is the ideal destination in South Bohemia for history buffs, incorrigible romantics and even those who worship sport. The castle owes its current appearance to the Schwarzenberg family and is often described as the most beautiful Czech castle.
A piece of Windsor England in the middle of South Bohemin: that’s how one could sum up the magical Hluboká Castle, which got its present appearance in the 19th century after a Neo-Gothic reconstruction. Hluboká Castle was originally founded as a guardian castle in the middle of the 13th century by Bohemian kings. Within the context of the Romantic modification of the noble residence, the Schwarzenbergs founded an expansive landscaped park in the mid 19th century.
Prague
Prague (Praha in Czech) was the ancient capital of Charles IV's Bohemian Kingdom, and has played a pivotal role in the development of Central Europe since the Middle Ages. Its epic history has produced a vibrant city of stunning buildings and lovely old squares, with the result that today Prague is one of the world's most beautiful cities. As visitors to Prague have increased, tourism has become of vital economic importance to the city.

Prague Castle was most likely founded in around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty (Přemyslovci). A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from the remains of Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century through Gothic modifications of the 14th century. The famous Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik was responsible for extensive renovations in the time of the First Republic (1918-1938). Since the Velvet Revolution, Prague Castle has undergone significant and ongoing repairs and reconstructions.
Charles Bridge, Prague
It is one of the oldest stone bridges in Europe: the Karlsbrücke over the Vltava. It is limited by two towers and is only open to pedestrians and is very lively around the clock. The Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) connects the Malá Strana and Staré Mesto districts with 16 arches. Numerous figures of Saints line the edges of the bridge. The most famous is that of Saint Jan Nepomuk, who was thrown into the Vltava at this point. The bridge is something like a open-air museum, although many figures are no longer can be seen as original.
