Highlights

Passau
Three rivers from three directions - the Danube from the west, the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north - make the landscape at the Dreiflüsseeck a unique beauty.

Passau

Passau, St Stephen's Cathedral
St Stephen's Cathedral in Passau is the mother church of the Danube East. There is evidence of a church in the late antique city of Batavis as early as 450. The magnificent cathedral stands at the highest point of Passau's Old Town.

Dom St. Stephan

Schlögener Donauschlinge
Surrounded by the Danube - this is the impression you get when you look down from the tower of the Haichenbach castle ruins over the woods to the Schlögener Schlinge, probably the most famous change in direction of the Danube on its way from the Black Forest to the Black Sea.

Schlögener Donauschlinge

Bratislava Castle
The city's four-towered landmark has been an integral part of the cityscape for centuries. The first written reference to a border fortress dates back to 907. It was extended during the reign of the Hungarian Emperor Sigismund in the 15th century, resulting in the palace with its central courtyard and four corner towers.

Burg Bratislava

Gellért Hill Budapest
The "Monument to the Holy Martyr Bishop Gellért" commemorates the uprising of pagan Hungarians in the 11th century. According to legend, they took the violent Christianisation of Gellért as an opportunity to lock him in a barrel and throw him down the hill into the Danube.

Gellért Berg

Budapest, Great Market Hall
The Great Market Hall - officially called the Central Market Hall - is the largest covered market in Budapest, located in the ninth district on the edge of the city centre and Ferencváros at Fõvámtér 1 - 3.

Tour

Plan your journey to the three-river city of Passau so that you can spend some time here. With the largest baroque church organ in the world in Passau Cathedral and a charming old town, Passau is really worth a visit. Embarkation takes place between 16:00 and 17:00. Enjoy your first evening on the deck of your floating hotel on the sun deck or in the restaurant while the MS Vivienne takes you to the Upper Danube Valley.

After a relaxing evening and your first night on your floating hotel, you get on your bikes for the first time in Engelhartszell. Your cycle tour today takes you through the romantic river landscape of the Danube Loop with its small villages and cozy cider taverns. Enjoy one of the most beautiful and pristine stretches of the Danube before disembarking in the charming market town of Aschach and gliding into the night.

You start your cycle tour in Devin with its fortress complex. The narrow cycle path leads along the former Iron Curtain to the imposing Hof Castle with one of the most magnificent Baroque gardens in Europe. Enjoy a little piece of untouched nature before you reach the vibrant Slovakian capital of Bratislava.  On a trip up Castle Hill and a city tour (not included), you can discover the hidden alleyways and squares, the imposing buildings from the K & K period and all the sights of the old town.

Enjoy the fantastic view of the beautiful landscape of the Danube Bend from on board your ship. The entrance to Budapest is spectacular, as the famous sights of the Hungarian capital are located directly on the banks of the Danube: the Parliament, Gellert Hill, the Chain Bridge and the Market Hall - the “belly of Budapest”. Decide for yourself which of the countless sights you want to see. Alternatively, you also have the option of taking a bike trip to the artists' town of Szentendre. In the evening, visit the Jewish Quarter.

Today the Hungarian Wachau, the Danube Bend, awaits you. This cycle tour is also an excursion into the history of Hungary. You cycle from the former royal seat of Visegrad through the picturesque, gently undulating landscape of the Danube Bend to Esztergom. Once there, marvel at the mighty, magnificent basilica dominating the castle district, which is also the largest church in Hungary.

Discover Vienna from its most beautiful side: during a city tour by bike or bus (not included) you will experience the most famous buildings up close: the imperial Hofburg, St. Stephen's Cathedral, the magnificent boulevard, Ringstrasse with the State Opera, Burgtheater and City Hall, the colorfully painted Hundertwasserhaus and the Ferris wheel directly in the Vienna Prater. You can relax in the countless small cafés or at a wine tavern. At night, the MS Vivienne continues on to the Wachau.

Today the beautiful landscape of the Wachau with its gentle hills awaits you between Schlögener SChlinge and Vienna. The Wachau is characterized by small, dreamy villages, apricot trees, wine terraces, castles, monasteries and ruins. Let yourself be enchanted! The cozy wine taverns located directly on the cycle path invite you to take a break. Discover Dürrnstein with its narrow alleyways. Today's stage destination awaits you with the Benedictine abbey of Melk Abbey.

In the morning, enjoy the peaceful tranquillity of the Danube valley and the first rays of sunshine on deck. Relaxed and rested and certainly in a good mood, you will reach Passau in the late morning, where disembarkation takes place at around 11:00 am.

The planned route is always subject to possible changes due to nautical, meteorological or organisational reasons. If, for example, a route cannot be travelled due to low water, high water, bad weather or construction work, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety. This is not a legally valid reason for cancelling the trip free of charge. The same applies in the event of officially ordered lock or bridge repairs or in the event of engine or propulsion damage to the ship through no fault of the captain.
As your ship usually sails to the next harbour on the same day, your time frame for your own activities and sightseeing is limited. On some bridges, the clearance height is so low that the sun deck is closed for your safety.

Interesting facts about the cycle and boat trip from Passau to Budapest on MS Vivienne

Below you will find specific information about the cycle and boat trip from Passau to Budapest and back with the MS Vivienne. If you have any further questions about this trip, simply give us a call: Tel: 06421-886890.

Parking in Passau

You have the option of parking your vehicle in a car park on the outskirts of Passau. You can choose between a secure but uncovered car park (2025: €80 for the duration of the trip) or a multi-storey car park (2025: €94 for the duration of the trip). You will be taken from the car park to the ship and vice versa by transfer bus. You will receive a form with your travel documents approx. four weeks before the start of the trip, with which you can reserve the desired car park. Payment for the car park will be made on site.

Luggage

Please note that storage space in the cabin is limited. It is recommended that you bring your luggage on board in a sports bag or similar instead of a suitcase.

Noise level

Please also bear in mind that your river boat is not only your "holiday hotel", but also a piece of work equipment that moves under engine power and has to be operated constantly, even at night (sometimes with locks and bridge crossings, possibly with the superstructure moving in and out), must be operated. We recommend that guests who are particularly sensitive to noise take earplugs with them. The lock passages are associated with disturbances - this is the case with all Danube cruises and unfortunately cannot be changed.

Extra costs that are not included in the tour price

Arrival and departure, transfers, drinks, hire price for rental bikes, cycling clothing and helmets, personal insurance, tips and personal expenses, parking fees and excursions.

7 day hotline service

In case of chain breakdown, flooding or other bad surprises that makes a continuation of your tour impossible: no problem, we also work during weekends and you can reach us 7 days a week in case of emergency.

Passport and visa requirements

For EU citizens, there are no special passport or visa requirements and no health formalities to be considered for this trip.

Travel insurance

The tour price already includes the statutory insolvency insurance. In addition, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance upon receipt of your travel confirmation in order to protect yourself against financial disadvantages in the event of travel cancellation, interruption of travel, illness or accident.

Velociped can withdraw from the tour twenty-one days before the starting date of the tour, at the latest, in case the minimum number of participants stated under the tour description is not attained. You will duly be informed without any delay in case of a withdrawal. Velociped will of course refund the paid tour price immediately. Please note our General Terms and Conditions.
