By bike through the Mecklenburg Lake District, that is pure joy! You will cycle past a thousand lakes along long avenues, past gnarled trees and through sun-drenched forests. Your tour begins and ends in Waren an der Müritz, which, with its 110 square kilometers, forms the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Well-developed bike paths and natural paths take you to places worth seeing such as Neustrelitz, Wesenberg, Mirow and Plau. Past an infinite number of smaller and larger lakes, all of which were created at the end of the Vistula Ice Age, you cycle in the fresh air through an impressive natural landscape. On the wide fields golden ears sway in the mild wind and in the evening the sun bathes the brick-red bricks of the old manors in a warm light. For all swimmers on this bike tour, swimming trunks should definitely be in the saddlebag.

Tour

Get to Waren in good time today - it's worth it! Stroll through the lovely city and the marina on the banks of the largest lake on German soil. You can also visit the small botanical garden on the headland at Lake Tiefwarensee. It is characterized by a special scenic location with delightful views of the old town of Waren. Pick-up and adjustment of the bikes by 5 p.m.

Your first trip takes you through the Müritz National Park. Drive along the east bank of the Müritz through this 318 square km large gem. Look forward to this bike route, because the forests, lakes and moors form a breathtaking backdrop. The last ice age formed the Mecklenburg Lake District, a particularly attractive landscape with hundreds of lakes and moors. They are nestled in a hilly woodland. Its old beech trees give us an idea of what the former primeval beech forests looked like throughout Germany. The old giant trees and dead beeches are now home to many species of bats, insects and fungi. With a little luck, you might spot sea eagles, ospreys or cranes. In order to protect the uniqueness of these forests, they were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2011. Today you cycle on wonderful paths through extensive forests, swamps and meadows to Neustrelitz, once the royal seat of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Visit the beautiful castle garden (built in 1731/32) with its neo-Gothic castle church and marvel at the graceful west towers of the stream stone building. If you want, you can end the day comfortably in the stylish restaurant in the orangery, which was once built as winter quarters for orange trees, laurels and other exotic plants.

After a recommendable visit to the market square and Neustrelitz Castle Park, you cycle through a network of many small lakes that invite you to swim again and again. Take the time and rest and take a break at the observation stands that keep popping up. Observe the active bird life and enjoy the silence and uniqueness of this nature. Viewing platforms protrude into some of the lakes and viewing towers offer you a fantastic view of the lake landscape. In the afternoon, a stroll through the historic Wesenberg market square is recommended. Marvel at the old linden tree in front of the entrance to the Gothic St. Mary's Church. With a trunk diameter of 8 meters, it adorns the entrance of the church as a natural monument. Visit Wesenberg Castle, a high medieval tower hill castle. Today it houses the tourist information office and the Heimatstube with an interesting fishing exhibition. The toy museum in Villa Pusteblume is only a few meters away. Old toys and mechanical musical instruments have been lovingly brought together here. A visit to the Wesenberg Foundling Garden is also interesting. Here you will discover large boulders that were transported to the area around Wesenberg during the last ice age through glacier movements.

On the edge of the Müritz National Park, you drive back to the Müritz through gently rolling countryside. In the midst of the enchanting forest and lake landscape of the Mecklenburg Lake District, you should definitely take a break in the pretty town of Mirow. Visit the romantic castle island with the historic gatehouse (1588), the residential castle and the venerable Johannisterkirche. Then you cycle through meadows, forests and over gently rolling hills to Röbel an der Müritz, the colorful harbor on the small sea. Stroll through the tranquil ring alleys with the many colorful half-timbered houses and marvel at the restored windmill that sits enthroned on the castle hill in the middle of the city. The beautiful, long promenade with moorings for passenger boats, inviting restaurants and cafes invites you to dream and linger.

Between the two large lakes Müritz and Plau, you cycle through a diversified landscape with mixed forest, meadows, forest clearings, slopes and many natural bodies of water. At the southern tip of the Plauer See, one of the largest lakes in this fascinating holiday region, you should definitely plan a break in the bear forest. Since 2006, the bear forest has been offering a new home to bears that have been poorly kept. Watch the bears during a hike through the mixed forest and learn more about the life of these wild animals at exciting exhibition stations. On the more than 700-meter-long visitor path, the residents of the exhibit can be observed very well without being disturbed. There are currently 16 brown bears living in the 16 hectare outdoor enclosure. After a worthwhile break, the climatic health resort of Plau with its picturesque old town is quickly reached. In the afternoon, climb the 13.5 m high lighthouse. Enjoy a wonderful all-round view of the Plauer See and the climatic health resort from the 8m height viewing platform. On your stroll through Plau, marvel at the Renaissance town hall from 1888, the art treasures of the St. Mary's town church and the Plauer lift bridge, which is one of the most popular photo stops in the city.

Today you will cycle around the northern tip of the Plauer lake to the village of Alt Schwerin. After several buildings in the village were unused, an Agricultural History Museum was set up here in 1963, which represents the manor and agricultural history of Mecklenburg from 1848 to the present day. In addition to an extensive collection of technology and everyday objects, today's open-air museum Agroneum offers constantly changing special exhibitions. During a visit you walk through the museum and thus through the whole village. Marvel at the village church with its base from the 13th century, the manor complex with mansion, administrators' apartments, large storerooms, stables from the 19th century and the single-family house of an LPG member from the 1970s. On the edge of the Schwinzer Heide you then cycle to the island town of Malchow, which is idyllically located with its old town center on an island between Malchower See and Fleesensee. Cycle through the Land Fleesensee holiday region to the pretty little harbor village of Sietow. Be sure to try some fish that is freshly smoked several times a day. A real delicacy! Past Klink Castle, where you can take a wonderful break from cycling on the sunny outdoor terrace, you roll back to Waren on the comfortable Müritz circular route.

Unfortunately, your beautiful round trip ends today in Waren. We would be happy to book an extension for you and wish you a safe journey home.
