Lake Chiemsee is Bavaria's largest lake and is located about 70 kilometers from Munich. The lake in Chiemgau is a vacation region with many recreational opportunities for families. The lake measures 63.96 kilometers in circumference. In addition, there are the islands of Herrenchiemsee, Frauenchiemsee, Krautinsel and the municipality-free island of Schalch.
From the Rupertiwinkel region to lake Königssee, our lovely little land is dotted with charming villages where alpine customs are kept alive. Parades, religious processions, beer fests and folklore events testify to our locals' love of life and Bavarian traditions. Once chosen by the Bavarian kings, this area boasts a royal castle and many other sights of interest. Berchtesgaden is also a paradise for hikers and those who like to remain physically active. From leisure strolls to exhilarating mountain hikes, this is a region to discover on foot.
Lake Königssee with its emerald green color and nestled at the foot of the imposing eastern wall of Mount Watzmann in the heart of the Berchtesgaden National Park is one of nature's true masterpieces. The greatest luxury in these fast-paced times is silence. As soon as you board one of the attractive electric passenger boats all the noise, hustle and bustle is left behind. During the crossing to St. Bartholomew the boatman plays his trumpet to lure out the world-famous Königssee echo from the steep rock face. In St. Bartholomew the lovely pilgrimage church is world-renowned for its wine-red onion domes.
The "Alpine town" of Bad Reichenhall, the mild climate, brine springs and charming landscape once lured crowned heads of state to the town, which is proud to be called the "Bavarian State Spa" since 1900. Today, Bad Reichenhall is a lively spa and convention town that combines tradition with modernity. Moreover, it is a top destination for Alpine wellness: thanks to rich natural resources, health and wellbeing are brought to attention more than ever.
The vibrant flair and special charm of Salzburg can best be experienced by taking a leisurely stroll through the historical downtown district. In fact, Salzburg’s “Old City” lends itself perfectly to exploration on foot. The River Salzach actually divides it into two halves: the right side, including the Linzergasse, Platzl and Steingasse, and the left side. It is this left side, the older section of the city, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, also incorporating the Kaiviertel district as well as Festungsberg and Mönchsberg mountains.
