The Lake Starnberg has a surface area of approximately 56 square kilometres (22 sq mi) which makes it to the fourth largest lake in Germany and a great place for sightseeing. The lake Starnberger See is located in the southwest of Bavarians capital, the beautiful Munich. The lake Starnberger See has a maximum depth of 127 metres, a lenght of 20.2 kilometers and a maximum width of 4.7 kilometers. There is a 46 kilometer long hiking / biking trail around the lake. Like the lake lake Ammersee, the lake Starnberger See developed as a result of the ice age glaciers melting.
Mountains, baroque, beer gardens – a piece of Bavarian paradise: No matter where you look, you’ll see a church steeple. Hence its name, which was first mentioned in a document in 1756. It comes from a time when “Pfaffe” (priest) didn’t come with a negative overtone; the monasteries played a much more significant role in the utilisation of the land. Glory on earth – is manifested in the magnificent backdrop of the alpine foothills between Lech and Loisach with 159 churches and a plethora of monasteries. Pfaffenwinkel is home to the world-famous Pilgrimage Church of Wies, the wildly romantic Ammer River and the surreal Osterseen lakes.
People travel to the Benedictine monastery for many reasons: Some are taking part in the 900+ year tradition of pilgrimage to Andechs, while others simply want to enjoy a “Mass” of the monastery’s beer and a traditional Bavarian Brotzeit (a meal of cold meats, bread and cheese) while soaking up the magnificent views over the Alps and picturesque landscape in the Five Lakes Region. The monastery’s cultural programme also attracts a lot of fans: Its calendar of events includes the Andechser Orgelsommer (a summer organ festival), the Carl Orff Festival and a wide range of symposiums. Visitors can also combine their trip with a guided tour of the brewery or the historic Kloster Andechs.
Nature, art, congeniality, entertainment, shopping – the small artists’ town bubbles over with zest for life! With about 12,000 inhabitants and about 1,500 guest beds in all categories, the officially recognised health resort is the centre of the Blue Land around the Staffelsee. The picturesque landscape with a clear all-round view of the Alpine chain and alternating bluish lighting moods inspired world-famous artists such as Kandinsky and the Blue Rider group of painters. Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter lived and painted in the present‑day Münter House from 1909-1914 and found the way into the abstract painting of Expressionism.
Cathedral / Frauenkirche
The cathedral to our "lieben Frau", who is simply called Frauenkirche in the Volksmund, is the widely visible landmark of Munich. The two towers of the gothic cathedral dominate the cityscape. The southern tower can be visited at certain times and offers a wonderful panorama view over Munich
Marienplatz / New Town Hall
In the middle of the city: the town hall in neo-gothic style surpasses Munich's Marienplatz. A popular photo object: the world-famous clock game, which turns around 11 and 12 o'clock every day, as well as from March to October at 5 pm in the Rathausturm.
Anyone who has passed the 306 steps to the lookout platform of the Old Town in the center of Munich will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the city and the surrounding countryside. When the weather is good, the Alps and Zugspitze can be seen.
Nearly every tourist has heard of Hofbräuhaus. The famous Bierhalle am Platzl in the Old Town is well visited in all seasons.
Theatinerkirche / Odeonsplatz
The Catholic Court and Stiftskirche St. Kajetan belongs to the magnificent buildings at Odeonsplatz. Since in earlier times it was the Order Church of the Theatine Monks in Munich, it is only called Theatinerkirche in the Volksmund. Next to the Theatinerkirche are the Feldherrenhalle and the Munich Residenz.
At the time of the monarchy, the kings of the Wittelsbacher ruled from the residence. Today, the building is used in a variety of ways: the Herkulessaal regularly hosts classical concerts, and the State Collection of Egyptian Art is housed in the rooms of the residence.
Built for the Olympic Summer Games 1972, the Olympiapark with its distinctive glass architecture is today one of the leisure centers of the city. Numerous events in the stadium, the Olympic Stadium or the park provide plenty of visitors.
The BMW world is the latest visitor magnet at the Olympiapark. The house with the impressive architecture tells the story and the future of the Bavarian automobile manufacturer.
The UFO in the north of Munich: The Allianz Arena is the city's newest landmark. If the Munich football clubs can not play here, interested parties can be guided through the building and marvel at the unique architecture.
The castle of the Bavarian ruling family, the Wittelsbacher, belongs to the magnificent buildings of this dynasty. Today, the connected castle park is a recreation area for residents and tourists. In addition to a guided tour of the mansions of the castle, a visit to the Naturkundemuseums Mensch und Natur is also offered, which is also accommodated in the building.
