Traditions and vineyards

7 day round trip through Alsace.

Discover on this round trip the wonderful region at the border of Germany. Alsace is famous for its high number of picturesque villages, churches and castles and for the various beauties of Straßburg and Colmar. The gastronomic symbol is undoubtedly Sauerkraut. The word Sauerkraut in Alsatian has the form sûrkrût, same as in other southwestern German dialects, and means "sour cabbage" as its standard german equivalent. Taste as well foie gras made in the region since the 17th century, the good fruit juices and the regional wines.

Tour

Come to Strasbourg in time today! Many sights are waiting to be discovered. From the hotel in the city center you can walk to all the sights, an unforgettable experience. Climb the 332 steps to the south tower of the Strasbourg Cathedral and enjoy a magnificent view. The whole city centre of Strasbourg, which is also named „Grande Ile“ (Big Island) has been declared world cultural heritage by the UNESCO in 1988 because of its interesting architecture. You can arrive by train or car and park it in the public underground car park near the hotel. If you rented a bike, you will receive the bike at the hotel.

You leave Strasbourg on the cycle path along the Rhine-Rhone Canal to the south and come to Osthouse or Sélestat in the heart of the moor landscape of the Alsatian reed. Overnight in the Selestat area.

You cycle through the Rieddörfer to the cultural city of Colmar. Look forward to the beautiful old town with its famous Little Venice district. Marvel at the brightly painted and admirably well-preserved half-timbered houses, the many small squares and corners and enjoy a nice evening in a special atmosphere.

Today we finally go to the wine region! Behind Colmar you slowly but surely leave the flat Rhine Valley and lovely vineyards will be your companions. You roll gracefully and beautifully through this wonderful wine landscape to Guebwiller without major inclines. Visit the Romanesque abbey church of Murbach and pay a visit to the pretty sandstone church in Guebwiller.

You will cycle the first light waves of this holiday today. On the Alsatian Wine Route you can reach the most beautiful and best-known wine villages of Alsace on wonderful bike paths: Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr offer all the delicacies of the region in winding streets and interesting half-timbered houses.

Once again you follow the wine route through beautiful villages to the Romanesque Abbey of Andlau and reach the small wine-growing town of Obernai. With its storks, half-timbered houses and flower-filled streets, Obernai looks like a miniature version of Alsace. Take a wonderful walk under linden and chestnut trees along the city wall, marvel at the colorful houses decorated with flowers and the former grain hall, which is now an attractive restaurant.

Today there are still 40 km on your program. In Rosheim, admire the 12th century Peter and Paul Church, a jewel of the Alsatian Romanesque. Along the Bruch Canal you will reach Strasbourg. Your beautiful bike tour ends here in the afternoon at the hotel, where you return the rental bikes. You are welcome to book an extension.
