Dykes, vastness and rich culture

Look forward to a varied cycle tour along historic places, beautiful fortified towns and a typically Dutch river landscape. You cycle through the wide Rhine delta along the Neder Rijn, the Lek and the Merwede to Rotterdam. Some of the highlights of this beautiful cycle tour are the Airborne Museum Hartenstein, Doorwerth Castle, Slot Loevestijn, Biesbosch National Park and the windmills of Kinderdijk (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The contrast of small, picturesque villages with many historical and cultural treasures and the vibrant port metropolis of Rotterdam awaits you. The easy and well-signposted route, which often leads along charming, low-traffic dyke paths, is typically Dutch and offers "pure cycling pleasure".

tour

With excellent rail and motorway connections, you can reach Arnhem quickly and easily. Bike handover of rental bikes at the hotel. Enjoy a walk through the beautiful Sonsbeek city park, which largely consists of a centuries-old beech forest. Shopping fans will get their money's worth in the popular shopping district, while history buffs can discover Arnhem's eventful history and visit the impressive memorials and monuments.

Look forward to a varied tour through the oldest national park in Holland: Veluwezoom. Veluwezoom is characterized by its hilly landscape with extensive forests and heaths. Along the way you will see impressive historic country houses and old farms and the fertile floodplains stretching south of the Rhine. The end point of this day's stage is Wijk bij Duurstede. In the early Middle Ages, this was the site of the important trading town of Dorestad. End the day in the beautiful town center, take in the many historical and cultural sights or visit the small harbor.

At Wijk bij Duurstede you cross the Lower Rhine and head towards the famous fruit region of the Betuwe, whose soils are among the most fertile in Europe. Look forward to the historic town of Buren, which is completely listed. Buren is known for its well-preserved old fortifications, which include a beautiful windmill. You then cycle along the River Linge to Leerdam with its medieval charm. The defensive walls with their ramparts and the three large residential towers are among the town's landmarks. Today's destination is Gorinchem, situated on the floodplains of the Linge, Merwede and Waal rivers. Take a worthwhile stroll through this old fortified town.

In the morning, take the ferry to the fortified town of Woudrichem. Stroll through the town with its Gothic church and Loevestein Castle. This fortified moated castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century as a border and customs station at a strategically important point, the confluence of the Waal and Maas rivers. After a recommended visit, cycle through the beautiful Biesbosch National Park, where the Waal and Maas meet, and on to the oldest city in the Netherlands, Dordrecht. Stroll through the pretty town, enjoy a fantastic view from the unfinished tower of the Grote Kerk (Great Church), marvel at the old merchants' houses and the windmill and take a leisurely cafe break on the Scheffersplein. Now it's not far to your destination for today, Papendrecht.

In typical Dutch style, today you cycle along many canals to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kinderdijk. The most famous windmills date back to the 18th century and are among the most beautiful destinations in Holland. No matter what time of year - they are always fascinating and can be visited by bike. You then cycle on to Rotterdam. Rotterdam is a city with many faces: a cool port city, an attractive city for going out, a chic shopping city and a trendy city of artists. But Rotterdam is also first and foremost the architectural city of Holland, where modernization is the focus and the skyline is constantly changing. Between the skyscrapers of Rotterdam, you have all kinds of options: You can enjoy shopping, dining and visiting museums and sights.

After breakfast, your wonderful journey along the Dutch Rhine River ends in the hotel.
