tour description

Croatia by bike and boat

Island-hopping in Croatia

The islands of Croatia has been a well known holiday paradise for many years, especially for water sport lovers. Discover the charm of the islands of Krk, Cres and Rab by bike and boat. The simple but warm family atmosphere of the sailing motor glider MS Kalipsa promises a holiday of the special kind. During the day a German-speaking tour guide shows you the most beautiful islands and deserted coves, at night the ship lies quiet in the habour. If you have a certain level of fitness you can get your money worth by hiking and climbing in the mountainous interior of the island. At lunch time you go back to the boat, later in the afternoon you can choose whether you like to go biking or exploring the harbour town on foot.

MS Kalipsa

The MS Kalipsa is a classic powerd sailing boat. It provides a spacious deck with sunloungers in the open air and a dining saloon as well. The simple but heartly and familiar flair promises some special holidays. 11 outer cabins on the upper deck and 1 cabin on the lower deck are equipped simple but suitable, with bunk beds, shower and a toilet.

1. day Opatija Arrival / Island of Krk 18 km

Plan a timely arrival at the port of Opatija to check in your cabin before 12.00 am. You'll be spoiled with a relaxed lunch. Two hours later you'll reach Krk, the largest of the Kvarner islands. Today you'll start with a quick exploration tour from the capitol Krk to Punat and back.

2. day Island of Krk 48 km

The diverse bike trail leads you through chestnut and fig woods and you cycle over the ridge of the island. In the north-east of the sunny island the delicious Zlahtina wine grows. Take a break in the the pretty museum town Vrbnik before you continue to cycle back to Krk (42 km), where your ship drops anchor. Alternatively bike trip to Punat (38 km). Dinner on board.

3. day Island of Rab 22-43 km

During breakfast you sail to the island of Rab. From there you cycle on a beautiful bike trail till you reach the bay with sandy beaches. For lunch you'll be back on the boat in port of Rab. You'll be spoild for choice: a cycling trip through the "Dundo forest" or would you prefer to discover the old town by foot?

4. day Island of Pag 35 km

A short crossing brings you to the island of Pag. Here your bike ride begins along many old stone walls and ancient olive trees. After 22 km you reach the port of Novalja, here you can go back on board or continue your bike ride till you reach the picturesque bay of Mandre (35 km). Definitely you should stop in one of the traditional taverns and taste the famous Pag cheese before sailing to the island of Ilovik in the afternoon.

tour highlights

Opatija

Opatija is a seaside resort on the Kvarner Bay and is one of the oldest tourist resorts in Croatia. The promenade, the Lungomare of Opatija, leads over 12 kilometers from Volosko (Lovos) to Lovran (Lovrana). It was completed in 1911. Thanks to the extensive parks, which are situated directly beside the sea, as well as numerous elegant villas and hotels dating from the imperial period, Opatija and its surroundings are well visited all year round.

Opatija

Island of Krk

Krk is the largest island in the Adriatic. It is also called Insula Aurea, meaning the Golden Island. Krk is known for its beautiful beaches and clear water, but also for its karst landscapes and lush forests. The wine region of Krk is famous for the white wine Zlahtina, traditionally cultivated in the village of Vrbnik.

Island of Krk

Island of Rab

The island of Rab is one of the most famous and popular tourist destinations of Germans and Austrians and offers an astonishing variety of landscapes, beautiful estates, cultural monuments from pre-Roman times and much more..

Rab Island

Island of Pag

The island of Pag is probably the most contrasting island in Croatia. A place that polarizes people. It can be seen as the Croatian adäquat to Lanzarotes. As you approach the island from the mainland, you are inevitably reminded of a lunar landscape. Scarcely a shrub can be seen. Nothing but naked sand-colored rocks. However, if you have entered the island and crossed the first mountain, you can see many smaller and larger villages, meadows, reeds, fields and olive groves. The city of Pag is mainly known for its sheep cheese, the Paski Sir and its lace sewings.

Island of Pag

Island of Losinj

On the island you will find subtropical vegetation with palm trees, pine trees, agaves, oleanders, citrus trees, sage and lavender. Losinj is one of the sunniest places in Europe, with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine a year, equivalent to about 300 cloudless days.
