You will have the chance to enjoy the most beautiful part of the Rhine between Koblenz and Rüdesheim from the sundeck. Let the castles and fortresses float by! The Rhine bike trail passes well-known and worthwhile places such as Eltville, the historical Mainz and the Nibelungen town Worms. But the Neckar has a lot to offer as well. You will start to discover it in a town of worldwide fame: Heidelberg. Marvel at the Old-town which is well worth seeing and visit the magnificent castle. The romantic atmosphere of the Neckar will be experienced next! Take your time to enjoy Neckarsteinach as well as the small town of Hirschhorn with its former Karmelit monastery. Loaf around the angular lanes of Eberbach and bike to Hornberg castle.
This trip is also offered in the opposite sense from Bad Wimpfen to Koblenz.
The MS Patria offers capacities for 66 guests in 33 air-conditioned cabins equipped with two single beds, shower and toilet. A cozy atmosphere and a friendly crew await you in the saloon and bar. You also have a partially covered sundeck where you can spend your time after the bike tours. The crew is an experienced team, supplying a familiar atmosphere on board.
Individual arrival at the ship in the harbor of Koblenz. The crew welcomes you on bord. Experiencing the Old-town on your own is very recomendable. Embarkment starts at 4p.m.
Arriving in Bad Wimpfen: Your ship is waiting for you at the landing stage Hohe Steige close to the old town.
During the morning, the ship will take you up the most beautyful part of the Rhine valley (UNESCO world heritage) in order to reach the world-famous town of Rüdesheim around noon. After a lunch break you will finally get on the bikes. Then you will continue on your bikes into the centre of Mainz. Be looking forward to a tour around the town in the late afternoon. There, you might take the chance to visit one of the many interesting museums.
You leave Mainz and heading south you reach Nierstein about noon. The ship is waiting for you there and it's time for lunch on board. In the afternoon you enjoy a tractor tour through the vineyards around Nierstein before you have dinner and - of course - a winetasting with a local winemaker.
Some time you will stay right by the side of the Rhine, then you will see the mighty river from the distance. You will rejoin the ship in Worms with its cathedral and Nibelungen gate. Along with the cathedrals of Mainz and Speyer, the cathedral of Worms is one of the greatest creations of Romanic church architecture. Not only the tourists coming to Worms for a visit, but also the inhabitants of the town love to profit from the remodeled and restructured Rhine promenade. It is a pleisure to walk from "Strandbar 443" and the "Rheincafe Fürst" past the park to the boathouse "Hagenbräu" and "Kolb`s Biergarten". Marvel at the great variety of exotic plants, almost bringing a mediterranean flair to the Rhine promenade of Worms.
Departing from Worms, you will easily reach Ladenburg and its wonderful half-timbered houses via Lampertheim. Here you will say goodbye to the Rhine and get acquainted with the Neckar. Just a short distance along the Neckar to accomplish and you will find yourself in the heart of the beautiful Heidelberg, where the ship is already waiting for you. For the late afternoon, a walk around Heidelberg is scheduled; we highly recommend to visit the castle.
Leaving Heidelberg, your nect destination will be Neckargemünd. On your way you will also pass Ziegelhausen. The route we have chosen leads through the southern Odenwald to Neckarsteinach. You can now look forward to the next stage, the small town Hirschhorn and its castle; the town is considered the treasure of the Neckar valley. The most worthwhile sights are Hirschhorn castle, the ancient Karmelit monastery and the market church. Finally, you will bike to Eberbach, today’s final destination. Enjoy a walk around the narrow streets and the small places supplying a lively atmonsphere.
Ready, steady, go! After breakfast you will bike to Neckarzimmern via Ziegelhausen. A short trip to Hornberg castle will be very interesting. Hornberg castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the Neckar valley. It used to be the domicile for the bishops of Speyer after 1259 and came into possession of Götz von Berlichingen in the 16th century. The last stage along the Neckar leads you to the very athmospheric, medieval looking small town of Bad Wimpfen.
After breakfast it will be time to say goodbye. The train takes you back to Koblenz in about 3 hours or in about 12 minutes to Stuttgart central station, where you have access to ICE trains into all directions.
