Everyone who likes long stages on the bike will love this tour! You will circle the lake with all its sights and relax in beautiful hotels in the evening. The bike trail is mostly paved and even suitable for racing bikes.
We recommend arriving early, you will not be disappointed! Take the occasion to walk around the Old Town of Constance. This is the place where the Council, fundamentally reorganized by the Catholic Church, met between 1414 and 1418 in the cathedrale and in the council building under the chair of Emperor Sigismund. Its most well-known victim was the Czech reformer Jan Hus, executed here in 1415. The aquariums of the Sea Life Center and the archaeological museum are also worth visiting.
One could actually spend several days only in Constance!
Starting in Constance, you will ride along lake Gnadensee into the old imperial town Radolfzell. The bike trails are in a very good state and take you comfortably to the peninsula Höri and Stein am Rhein. Marvel at the beautiful houses decorated with frescos and enjoy yourselves around noon in the restaurants by the lakeside. Always along the lake you will leave behind you Swiss fishing villages and rejoin Constance. We recommend taking time for a stop at one of the numerous winegrowers places.
The car ferry takes you from Constance-Staad to Meersburg with its ancient Merovingian castle. The beautiful town is situated by a steep vineyard; walk around the narrow lanes and across the gorgeous places to enjoy the view from one of the terraces. Through vineyards you will find your way to the zeppelin town Friedrichshafen where a visit of the museum and the harbour are both very worthwhile. Orchards seam your bike trail as far as you can see before you arrive in the Bavarian town Lindau, situated on an island. Here, the town centre is an absolute must-see! Marvel at the beautiful lakeside promenade, where the lighthouse and the lion frame the famous entrance to the harbour. Enjoying the magnificent view over the bay of Bregenz, you will reach todays destination: Bregenz.
Just behind Bregenz, you will cross the Rhine delta, an important nature reserve. Close to Altenrhein, you will cross the boarder to enter Switzerland. Did you know that the local market hall is the last building realized by the artist Friedrich Hundertwasser? Never leaving the lakeside you will bike through apple plantations in order to reach Arbon and Romanshorn and to get back to Constance.
Your bike tour ends after breakfast.
