Start your bike trip with a word record! With a height of 161,5 metres, you will find in Ulm the highest steeple of the world. Climbing it to enjoy the view from above is an absolute must-do. Concerning culture and landscape, one highlight chases the other on this bike trip. Pass Donauried and cross the impressive wetlands by the mouthings of the Danubes side rivers, displaying a varied biota. Nature offers another highlight between Weltenburg und Kelheim: The Danube Gorge. Experiencing this phenomenon is a unique adventure! After this breathtaking highlight, the Danube takes you to a great number of worthwhile former residencies with their historical centres. In each of them different gorgeous Baroque and Renaissance buildings wait to catch your attention.

1. day  Arrival in Ulm

It is possible to arrive by train/ parking facilities at the hotel.

2. day  Dillingen 57 km

In a decent pace, the route between Ulm and Dillingen passes in no time. Elchingen with its worthwhile pilgrimage church and the rococo-style Church of Our Lady in Günzburg lie on your way to the former residency of Dillingen.

3. day  Donauwörth 35 km

Your first stop today will be Pfalz-Neuburg castle in Höchstädt. After a relaxing break, you will continue to Donauwörth through the wide floodplains of the Danube. Donauwörth is situated at the mouthing of the Wörnitz, where the most important trade route between Nürnberg and Augsburg crossed the Danube back in the days. The Käthe-Kruse- doll museum and noble middle-class houses can be visited here.

4. day  Ingolstadt 63 km

Today is the day of castle visits! You can be looking forward to seeing Leipheim castle, Bertoldsheim castle and Stepperg castle. But the highlight of the day is the most beautiful Renaissance palace of the Danube situated in Neuburg. Through wide forests you will reach Ingolstadt with its impressive medieval city wall.

5. day  Kelheim/ Bad Gögging 46/35 km

Via Bad Göggingen you will arrive at the monastery of Weltenburg. Marvel at the impressive Benedictine monastery, often mentioned among the most beautiful ones in Bavaria and do not miss to taste the local kitchen in the monasterys beer garden.
Afterwards, nature offers an absolute highlight: You will cross the Danube Gorge by boat (6 km). Experiencing this phenomenon is a unique adventure! You will spend the night in Kelheim (category B) or Bad Göggingen (category A).

6. day  Regensburg 39/55 km

Several highlights are on the agenda today: A walk up to the Liberation Hall in Kelheim is rewarded with a magnificent panorama view over Regensburg, which can be considered the best-preserved German major city classified world cultural heritage by the UNESCO!

7. day  Straubing 51 km

It is not easy to turn your back on the beautiful town of Regensburg, but you should be looking forward to a first stop in Donaustauf. A visit of the Walhalla, a replication of the Pantheon, is recommendable! Continuing further on through the plains of the Danube past Wörth castle, you will soon reach Straubing with its striking city tower.

8. day  Deggendorf 41 km

Today you will cycle through Bogen which became famous through the finding of the pregnant Madonna in 1104. Next, you will pass the Benedictine abbey in Metten just before reaching Deggendorf, gate to the Bavarian Forest. Enjoy a walk around town and take your time to let the Gothic and Baroque architecture of the beautiful Old-Town act on you.

9. day  Passau 57 km

Via the monastery of Niederaltaich, which went up in flames 13 times throughout the centuries, your last stage leads you to Passau, the town of the three rivers. While the boat takes you along the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz, you will have the chance to discover the town from all different angles. What an impressive end to this amazing trip!
