5-river round trip.

On this round trip you will discover very old german towns. Amberg, begin and end of your bike tour, is a beautiful old town with impressive churches. The bike route leads you to Regensburg, located on the Danube River. The Old Town with Stadtamhof is an exceptional example of a central-European medieval trading centre, which illustrates an interchange of cultural and architectural influences. A notable number of buildings of outstanding quality testify to its political, religious, and economic significance from the 9th century. Since July 2006 Regensburg has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites. But look forward to Nuernberg, the world town of the middle age befor you return to Amberg.

1. day  Amberg Arrival

Arrive early! A beautiful old town with impressive churches, old facades, the electors residence and the glorious 600 year old town hall is waiting for you! (unwatched parking site free of charge or basement garage EUR 12 per week/arrival possible by German railway/rental bike at the hotel)

2. day  Regensburg 65 km

Along the Vils river you comfortably roll on an old rebuilt railway line to Kallmünz, pearl of the Naab valley. A good time for a break in this historic town with lots of protected monuments, before you roll through the wide, bloomy valley of the Naab river to Regensburg. Cycle over the 12th century stone bridge, the oldest still operating bridge of Germany! Get yourself a nice sunny spot in one of the countless cafes and soon you'll be infected by the student flair in the historic alleys.

3. day  Kelheim 35 km

Take some more time for Regensburg! Before you get on your bikes again visit the St. Peter cathedral, the most important gothic building in Bavaria. The wonderful course of the Danube river runs along with you today. In Kehlheim we recommend visiting the "Befreiungshalle" with a phantastic view of the confluence of Altmühlriver and Danube. And in the evening you definitely have to visit the Schneider beergarden!

4. day  Berching 55 km

Look forward to a boat trip through the wildromantic "Donaudurchbruch" (Danube gorge) and a visit to the baroque Weltenburg monastery. Enjoy the pleasure of food in the most beautiful beergarden of Bavaria - it's worth it! A big change in landscape occurrs today, because between Kelheim and Dietfurt the 55 m breadth of the Main-Danube channel replaces the romantic Altmühlriver.

5. day  Nuernberg 55 km/85 km

Today it's possible to choose between two routes: you either go the short way and follow the Main-Danube channel. With that option you will gain more time for Nuernberg, the world town of the middle age. The other option is to follow the romantic towpath along the Main-Ludwig channel. Colourful fruit trees, old sluices and bright water lilies are the reward for this choice. On absolutely flat ways you easily reach Nuernberg.

6. day  Hersbruck 35 km

Enjoy further hours in Nuernberg. Visit Martin Behaim, who designed the first terrestrial globe or Peter Henlein who produced the first pocket watch. Try the worldfamous "Nürnberger Lebkuchen" (gingerbread) or the excellent "Nürnberger Würstchen" (sausages) before you get on the bike again. The Pegnitz will take you to Hersbruck.

7. day  Amberg 45 km Departure

Now as you are pretty much in cycle training, a short ascent awaits you. In Sulzbach-Rosenberg which is enthroned on a mighty rock you discover historical parved mosaic stone, small alleys, comfortable inns and magnificent churches. Early in the afternoon your bike journey will end in Amberg. If you wish we will book a prolongation for you.
