The Pilgrimage to Santiago individual bike tour.
This special bike route runs on the old pilgrimage as well as on the adjoining backroads with short busy stages through the diversified hilly landscape. You will surely enjoy accommodation in good mid range hotels and in the family managed hotel in Villafranca and definitely not feel as a pilgrim. Discover the North of Spain, you will be surprised. Look forward to opulent green nature and a fascinating old cultivated landscape.
Flight via Madrid. It is just a 30 minutes Taxi drive to the hotel from the airport in Asturia. You should definitely still see the numerous sights of this old kings town today!
Fast and pretty comfortable the bike bus will take you into the Cantabrian Mountains. Off you go by bike through this meagre, nearly alpine landscape, through emerald green valleys and the wide lowlands of Leon. Enjoy the flair of Leon, the probably most interesting city in Northern Spain.
Along deserted villages made of clay you cycle through the Maragateria, a steppe like landscape. Most of the pilgrims usually already walked 1600 km to Astorga – but you will still have enough time to visit the bishops palace (built by Gaudi) and the gothic cathedral which specify the townscape.
Today you will clamber the height to the iron cross ‘Crux de Ferro’ and definitely be awarded with splendid views on the mountains of Castilia. Afterwards you will cycle to Ponferrada to visit the temple knights castle.
Transfer by bus to O Cebreiro. You will follow today the Camino de Santiago into green Galicia. On your route you will pass regional ‘Pallozas’, old elliptic farm houses, which remind of Celtic times.
Again a nice sunny day on which you will enjoy the bike stage! You roll through little dreamy villages, along sheep-runs. You can look forward to medieval town Lugo, which is still surrounded of a city wall today.
You will crown your pilgrimage with the last stage to Santiago de Compostela. On the road we offer twice the possibility to get on the bus to cycle your individual tour. At destination you still have the option to see the largest roman church in the world with gravesite of the holy Jacob. But Santiago de Compostela still has a lot more to offer and we therefore recommend to stay a night longer – it will be worth!
For your return flight we recommend to use the airport Santiago de Compostela.
