On the bike seat from Rome to Naples – what an experience! You start your discovery tour in the famous wine village Frascati. By bike you rush through the vineyards down to the Via Appia Antika – the oldest roads of Rome. Discover the coloseum, Spanish stairs, S. Pietro in Vaticano,... Look forward to the culinary delicousness and follow our restaurant recommendations! Our tour guide knows a lot and is always close if you need him, but you can cycle individually just how you like. For three days, the route mostly runs along a flat coastal landscape and offers once a sportive challenge in form of a slightly longer ascent. Overall you experience a felicitous mixture of beautiful bike routes, brilliant towns and recreative bathing stops on this beautiful coastline.
Individual arrival. Flight and arrival by train is possible / parking site at the hotel. Frascati is about 20 km south of Rome in the Colli Albani mountains. It is easy to get there, because train leaves from Rome main station every hour (Attention: on sundays trains are leaving only every two hours. Last train 7:52 p.m.). It’s worth it to arrive early in Frascati, because the town with it’s historic villas is a beautiful spot. Route discussion at 7 p.m. in the hotel (two nights at the Hotel in Frascati).
You start your first day of biking rolling downwards from the hotel through the vineyards of the Frascati to Rome. After just a few kilometres you reach the ‚Via Appia Antica‘ and cycle on this historic route (road closed for cars) into the centre of Rome. With these special impressions in the bike bag you get back to Frascati by train.
In the morning you transfer (12 km) directly to Castel Gandolfo and the famous summer residence of the pope. You get here on the bikes, cycle throught the lively towns of Albano and Ariccia and then roll further along Velletri and the Colli Albani down to Cori. At the foot of the Monti Lepini the route leads through a slightly hilly and fructuous wine growing landscape to Sermoneta. Here you still have to cycle an ascent of 160 m in height until you reach your hotel in the centre of the Old Town.
With a rustling descent you start your day and also the further route through the flat, fructous lowlands of Latina is easy to cycle. Early in the afternoon you reach the long sandy beaches of Lido di Latina and the hotel which is directly located at the sea. Long walks at the beach and a refreshing bath in the sea will be a wonderful end to the day.
A whole day on a silent idyllic sand road! On the left the ‚Circeo‘ national park attracts your attention with its unique lagoon landscape for little trips and on the right the never-ending dunes with the preliminary white sandy beaches beg for your attention. Comfortably you roll further, have a swimming break where ever you want and in the afternoon you reach the worth seeing town of Terracina without big effort.
Early in the morning you set sail and get to the preliminary Pontine Islands. After approx. 2,5 hour on boat you reach Ponza, the main island where you push your bikes on land. You reach a lively little harbour town and a bizzare, volcanic coastal landscape. Just 8 km in length has this island – it is 300 –1800 m in broad, but with some metres of height. So you enjoy a day on the bike on this interesting island before you get back to Terracina by boat (two nights in Terracina).
(The boat trip may be canceled due to weather conditions or organisation reasons. We will cycle round Terracina instead.)
You just roll 20 km along the coast to Sperlonga, a small fishing village with white houses, alleys and stairs, which lead down to the sea. Afterwards you cycle in a phantastic ascent up to the Monte Cefalo and finally through meager mountain landscape onwards to Itri. It’s impressive how fast the landscape changes it’s appearance within just a few kilometres! As a reward you finally roll the last 8 km down to Naples in the centre. Early in the afternoon you reach the railway station of Formia just to comfortably get by train into the city centre of Naples.
After breakfast your journey ends in the hotel in Naples. Return journey by fast train to Frascati possible. Airport Naples 10 km away from the hotel. Extension in Naples is possible.
