In Vienna the Danube bike trail does not end jet, 281 kilometers lie between the Austrian and the Hungarian capital. Enjoy unspoiled nature, little-known treasures and monuments, cultural and historical sights and long-established traditions. The landscape is characterized by wide plains, untouched meadows and small farming villages. The cultural highlights include the listed Old Town of Bratislava, certainly the Basilica of Esztergom and of course the Hungarian capital Budapest. In Austria you cycle the Danube bike trail and in Hungary and Slovakia you cycle on farm roads and small country roads.
We recommend arriving early, Vienna is a city with unlimited possibilities! Explore the majestic castle Schönbrunn with its extensive grounds, gaze over the city, visit the colorful Hundertwasser House or the Museum Quarter which is one of the largest cultural complexes of the world featuring 60,000 m2.
The Danube bike trail leads through alluvial forests, along the river, past the castle Orth and the castle Eckartsau to Hainburg. Look forward to the beautiful village with one of the most significant preserved fortifications in Europe. You'll stay in Hainburg/Bad Deutsch-Altenburg where springs
invite to relax.
Relaxed and pleasant you'll cycle on the well-developed Danube bike trail up to the Slovak capital Bratislava. After a quick coffee in the charming Old Town you'll continue biking on Hungarian territory. Cycling on dams and side roads, passing small charming villages you reach the beautiful town of Mosonmagyaróvár that is known as an important resort destination. Here you'll step in the car and comfortably drive to the quaint town of Gyor.
Today you'll cycle along the river Rába back to the Danube and the border Hungary/Slovakia. In Slovakia you'll bike on well-maintained paths, always close to the river. The baroque town Cicov is worth a break. From there you'll go on via Zlatna to the Slovak/Hungarian Twin Cities Komárom/Komarno.
Today you enjoy a quiet day hiking along the Nibelungen stream. Passing the Roman fort Kelemantia, cycling through lonely country villages where time seems to have stopped. On beautiful trails you are cycling to the known Gisela-Bridge, crossing the great stream and finding yourself back in Hungary. Look forward to Esztergom, also called "Hungarian Rome ", with its impressive Basilica and the Visegrád with its attractive Royal Palace enthroned high above the Danube Bend.
You cycle through the picturesque landscape of the Danube Bend - an impressive flow loop, sandwiched in steep slopes of limestone. After cycling 20 km one of the most beautiful bike trails you'll reach the lively artists' town of Szentendre, the historical part is best explored on foot. You can reach the center of Budapest by bike (20 km), or return your bikes already in Szentendre and drive comfortably by rail to Budapest.
After breakfast your beautiful journey ends with the return (Saturdays only) in a minibus to Vienna (arrival around 2 pm). We can book you also an extension in Budapest (Return to Vienna by train, carriage of bicycles is very difficult).
